eNoize 0 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Hi, I recently upgrade the entire HTPC system, and I have emby up and running again. I had a couple hiccups here and there but nothing that wasn't too difficult to take care of, and everything is back to how I had it previously. However, I am having one problem with organizing genre folders. Specifically, I want the server to refresh from the existing MB metadata inside each movie folder (XML files), not do it's thing as though those files didn't exist. I have specific genre names and folders I like for grouping and categorizing my collection. For example, there is a "Classics" and "Superheroes" section I have to input manually for every new movie I keep saving into the server, but now, in this new build, all that is gone. Is there a way to refresh my collection using the metadata already in each movie folder? I can't possibly go through every single folder and do it all again manually. That's thousands of movies I would have to sift through when that information already exists. Please help.
Luke 42083 Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 hi @@eNoize, the xml format is now considered legacy. You will need to install the Xml Metadata plugin from the emby plugin catalog in order to be able to read those files. thanks ! 1
eNoize 0 Posted June 24, 2017 Author Posted June 24, 2017 @@Luke, Are there any settings I need to make after installing the plugin, or does it automatically organize according to those XML files?
balkerman 7 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 @@Luke, Are there any settings I need to make after installing the plugin, or does it automatically organize according to those XML files? It has nil settings. What format should we be using now? Instead of xml?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 If you go to Dashboard-Library-Metadata there is a drop down for each content type. Is XML the first option to read metadata? Emby prefers NFO files by default now. 1
eNoize 0 Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 In Dashboard, I changed the order of preference to XML and then NFO when there are no XML files to be found, assuming that's what happens. All my custom settings and genre categories are back. I still need to tweak a few titles, mostly the new additions since switching to Emby, but at least, it's a more manageable number of movies in need of fixing.
Aussiedroid 56 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Just came across this myself, while wondering why some metadata was not aligned to my files. Installed plugin and all seems ok so far. Thanks for the info/creation of the plugin luke! I was wondering, is there any way to do a full covert from existing xml files to nfo? Also, I was a little curious to the differences between the file formats/implementation? Is it simply a different file extension or does it improve on the older format in any way? Cheers

mbguy 40 Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 (edited) This probably explains why Emby is not displaying the movie titles properly because I am using .xml format. But this doesn't explain the fact that only new movies I saved recently is affected but all the previous movies are still being recognized by Emby properly. Why is this? Edited July 15, 2017 by mbguy

Best guess would be they are already in the database.
