djon 16 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I tried creating for all my MP3 files. They are tagged fine and has worked for years with Squeezebox. On Emby however, strange things happen. For instance I have a folder structure like so: Techno Various Artists (all the songs with no album) Aphex Twin - Ambient Selected Works (a lot of other albums) For some reason Emby has decided to group ALL albums and songs under the Techno folder under the same album Ambient Selected Works. We are talking songs which have no album tag at all but also songs that are part of other albums. What could be the cause of this?
d00zah 149 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 (edited) My experience is that Emby is happiest with tagged music files in the following structure: Music > Artist 1 > Album 1 > songs > Album 2 > songs > Album 3 > songs Artist 2 > Album 1 > Album 2 > Album 3 Artist x, etc but doesn't deal well with folders of miscellaneous music files. From the WIKI: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Music%20naming Fortunately, I discovered that 'MusicBrainz Picard', with the proper options checked, creates the preferred structure automatically while tagging the files. Works great once now that I've hit on a working formula. Edited June 23, 2017 by d00zah
djon 16 Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) Is there really no other way than giving each artist its own folder? I have hundreds of tracks from different artists with only one song each. Why does Emby care about folders? It should only be concerned about the tags shouldn't it? Edited June 26, 2017 by djon
Luke 42085 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 We haven't fully moved to 100% tag driven and at this point still prefer artist/album structures. It is in our plans to eventually become fully tag driven and not care about folder structure. In the meantime something like Media Monkey's auto-organize feature could re-structure everything for you all in one shot easily. I think Picard also has this feature. thanks !
djon 16 Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Ok, bummer. It needs too much of a reorganizing of my folders as they aren't set up to work with Emby.
Luke 42085 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Ok, just be aware that something like Media Monkey's auto-organize feature could re-structure everything for you all in one shot easily. I think Picard also has this feature.
djon 16 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 I tried some manual reorganizing but ran into another problem. Is it not possible to set Emby to group compilation albums? Right now I can see all artists on compilation albums under artists and also the album is being split up into 30 albums with one song each from each artist.
Vicpa 611 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Hi @djon Ok, just be aware that something like Media Monkey's auto-organize feature could re-structure everything for you all in one shot easily. I think Picard also has this feature. The way I handle compilation albums, which emby seems to handle pretty well , is to use the Picard "standard". Picard will tag them as an album artist of "Various Artists" and the artist of the actual track. The file structure then becomes -Various Artists -Album Name -tracks in Picard the tags look like this and in emby I use the organize option in Picard (listed under options as move) as Luke points out Media Monkey has similar functionality. -vicpa Edited June 27, 2017 by Vicpa
d00zah 149 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 +1 for Picard... works well for maintaining an Emby-friendly music library.
