items imported strange behaviour

Good evening. All of the media that is on my "TV Folder" lists the latest media as being added between August and December this year, obviously this is wrong.

Any new movies that are added are imported with the correct date,

I use media centre master to tag, and copy the files to the correct location, and after checking the metadata for those items the date on them seems correct. - the date on the video coincides with the date in the metadata file.

The metadata "Date added behaviour for new content" is set to date scanned into library, and the date/time on my computer & tagging VM are both correct. Any suggestions as to why this might be happening?

Below are pictures of my tv shows folder showing the date, movies folder, metadata manager and metadata settings.

Many thanks.

Are you sure it is set to date scanned, because your screenshot shows otherwise?

Also, what format of metadata is media center master saving? is it xml or nfo?

lol, it was set to date scanned, but i think i changed it when i was checking the settings. it's saving as an xml file.

i have just noticed that if i open the "tv series" and select an individual episode the date on the episode is correct. it looks like its getting a future date from the container maybe?

Thanks

the date on the folders is in the past (like long in the past.)

Well keep in mind that changing the setting will only apply to new content that is scanned in after changing it. It will not affect items that have already been scanned in. is it possible that some items were scanned in first, then you noticed the dates not being to your liking, and then at point went and changed the setting?

thanks but tonight is the first time i've had the chance to take a look at the problem, i checked the settings as i took the screenshot. any idea where the future dates could have come from? there are no future dates on any of the files that i can see.

I would check the date created timestamps on your series and season folders.

this is a copy of all the files in the folder and sub-folders for the blacklist, sorted by date, but emby is showing that it was added on the 4th december 2017.

That is probably the date modified timestamp, not date created.

also check the metadata files to see if they have a dateadded value, because if they do then that will always be utilized over any dates on the files.

the server doesn't make up these dates, they come from somewhere, so you will just have to find out where. but the important thing is to think about the state not now, but at the time the content was first scanned in. that's why this can be difficult to hunt down after the fact.

is it possible that it is looking at the date backwards?

Xml is supposed to be using your system datetime format. We are not explicitly passing in a datetime format to the .net framework DateTime Parse method. So yes, I suppose it is possible that internally the wrong format was chosen, but check your system datetime settings.

This is one of the many reasons why the nfo metadata format is recommended. It always uses yyyy-MM-dd, regardless of system settings, so you don't run into these problems.

Please be aware that support for xml metadata has been moved to a plugin and is now considered legacy. For us it is maintenance only at this point, unless a community member would like to get involved and help add features to it, like for example, being able to specify the datetime format.

Since Media Center Master supports writing to nfo, i would strongly suggest configuring it to use that instead.

@@Happy2Play i'll change the settings in media centre master to nfo, thats not a problem at all. but the date format on my machine is dd/mm/yy all are set to english uk, in the region too.

should i use kodi, boxee or xstremer nfo settings?

orry one more question, is there anyway of getting emby to pick up on the correct date without losing my library? i don't really want to ditch the library db and rescan if i can help it.
