Incorrect Album artist shown

Recommended Posts

One of my music albums is showing the wrong album artist, more specifically one that does not exist in my library: "LBUM ARTI". This is not the one specified in the actual files, I have triple checked. So what does one do?

Hi, have you checked the tags embedded in your audio files?

Yes, as stated in the OP

@@Pico-tan can you provide a sample file for testing? thanks !

@@Luke yes, as soon as I can access a computer, I am kinda on the move at the moment.

Oh, thank you. Do you have a program you recommend for editing this?

Posted

Yes, though I was not aware of this part of the tag. I take it emby reads the other parts in the case that the one is empty?

Well we use ffprobe which creates a similar output as what you see above with MediaInfo. So it tells us what the album artist is, in other words.

Posted

Well, upon closer inspection I've found that the specific field is not present in any other album's tags. Also MP3tag can't even show the field in question; the one it calls album artist is the one called Album/Performer in MediaInfo..

Remember that there are different versions of id3 tags (v1, v2, etc). It's possible you may need to configure mp3tag to save all possible versions to make sure everything gets overwritten. Please let us know if this helps.

@@ginjaninja and @@Vicpa, as you are the music aficionados, any tips on how to get those tags updated?

I finally found it, it was not available in the standard editing window, had to go into some obscure menu.

Now, how does one get rid of empty artist pages?

What empty artist pages?

For example the one that this album, that had the wrong artist, was on. Now, since I have managed to correct the error it is no longer on that page, but the page still exists..

Exists where exactly? can you show a screenshot? thanks.

You're only seeing it in search, right?

You may have to delete those two folders in "*\Emby-Server\metadata\artists".

Already did that..

You don't need to touch the metadata folder. Our database cleanup needs to be improved to handle this. We will look to improve this in a future update of Emby Server. Thanks !

if you have  not set your single preferred write tag format in mp3tag (the one compatible with all your clients)...in tools > options > mpeg you should do so.

I use id3v2 utf-16.

then choose file > remove tags in mp3tag...this will remove all tags bar your preferred write tag format..so when you save you save just one version of tag ; (possibly not necessary but you know what your aiming at then)

I then run an mp3tag action to remove all tag entries except the specific known good required tags...so that there are not multiple versions of an albumartist tags or similar embedded. (ffprobe will extract embys album artist from more than one mp3 tags if they exist..i think ffprobe likes albumartist and album artist - one version of the albumartist tag will take precedence for ffrobe,,,but if multiple album artist tags exist it cis an opportunity for confusion. choose the tag value that all your clients understand, i use ALBUMARTIST (no space)

as long as the tags are correct and singular..emby seems to reliably and consistently extract  tags for me.
