Emby Theater electron process goes high

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Since the latest update of Empby Theater i encounter a problem. I can see two electron processes thant consume much CPU. My NUC fans are at the maximum speed and the NUC body is getting very hot.

I have tested the same movies with Kodi (with Emby Plugin) and fans are at a low level,  everything goes fine.

Did you encounter this problem ? Is there a workaround for this ? For the moment i don't use Emby Theater anymore which is a shame.

Thanks for your return.

Try installing the latest version from the website.

I have installed the latest version of ET 2.7.9.

Here is the result while i'm watching one episode of a serie in HDTV format so not hard to decode :

- Emby Theater : CPU between 30% and 50%, fan speed high

- Kodi (with Emby Plugins) : CPU between 12% and 15%, fan speed low

This behavior only happens since one or two versions, i'm sure it has to do with electron

Any idea Luke ?

Further informations. I now have downloaded the windows store Emby Theater which seems not to be the same as Emby Theater Desktop version. I have no issue with the windows store version at all.

May be this could help in analysis ?

the desktop app embeds chromium and has quite a bit of animation. there is some cost to that. the store app does not use chromium but also does not animate quite as smoothly.

Is there a way to install older version of Emby Theater ?

Downgrade from ET 2.7.9 to ET 2.7.7 and no more CPU high. ... I keep this version for the moment until the problem is solved. Am i the only one to have it ?

Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

I noticed high CPU usage recently from the server but just decided that at 25% usage what am I worrying about? I got that CPU under the hood for a reason and Emby does a lot with it that I like.

I'm having the same problem with high cpu usage and can't get Emby to even fully start.  I will make sure I have the latest version.

downgraded to 2.7.7 and is working fine now.

I would stay on 2.7.9. There won't be any difference in this regard between that and 2.7.7.
