Convert Tv recordings on schedule?

Is there a way to convert recorded tv programs on a schedule from the .ts to mp4?

I know there is the option to do it on the fly

That option has been confusing me. I have a program that i recorded but when i run syn it doesnt seem to know there is a recording to convert.

Check out the Folder Sync plugin found in the Services tab of the Download & Sync section.  Sounds like it might be what you're looking for.  I've never tried it.

 

edit:  If that doesn't work, you could always roll your own ffmpeg script and add it to a cron job.

I will give an example, I have recordings of The Big Bang Theory that are in .ts format. When I hit the little play button on the task convert media it takes 0 seconds for it to complete the task. Which to me means it either does not know the file is there or means it does not know i want to convert it to mp4.

I would hope to convert it because mpeg2 is a cumbersome format not widely playable. 

I was hoping to use it to convert tv programs into mp4 as a scheduled task rather than a higher cpu demand process of on the fly recording and converting. 

Emby gives me the option to immediate convert i was hoping i could use this task to convert at a scheduled time.

So you thought that without setting anything else up, just pressing that button would do it?

Well yes, there isnt anything else in the interface that i have found that would lead me to think other setup is needed. If that task isnt there to convert media into more playable formats i don't know what it's purpose is.

No, I think you can do it.  I think Luke is just trying to figure out what part is unclear so he/they can make it more clear for future users.  Just give it a bit, as far as I know, sync or at the very least folder sync will work.

The way I do it is set up a folder for the folder sync plugin.  Then when the live TV program is done, I have it sync to that folder.  Then I manually move it and delete the recording.  You can have it do it automatically in the settings of folder sync plugin, along with the livetv section on the server dashboard and the auto organize.  I just don't because the main things I record is Dateline NBC and 48 Hours, which EPG data doesn't usually tell me what episode it is and don't want it replacing something I already have.

Ok, so i have the folder syn plugin installed. I see where there is a setting for a directory.  How do i then go about having emby convert those files from .ts to .mp4?

I am not trying to syn to another device. I am trying to convert from mpeg2 to mp4 on the server.

OK ok i think i see now, in download to other it now lists the other directory as a possible target so i can use that to convert media. A bit labor-some having to do that for every program.

Thank you very much this was what i was missing. I kept looking at that more as strictly for downloading. I hope i can get this to do entire series automatically i will have to play around with this.

My Pi thanks you i am able to keep it under 60f now by limiting it to 2 cores while converting. Now to amass my collection of shows and have this tiny cheap computer convert them all into a easy to play format.

 With the mp4 hardware acceleration now working the pi barely breaks a sweat streaming mp4's even to html 5 which it says its transcoding but its hard to tell.
