T800 10 Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 (edited) My Emby Server is running on a MacBook Pro and my content is on two unRAID servers. One for Movies and one TV Shows. After getting a large electricity bill I decided it was time to sleep my main server (Movies) as it isn't used every day. I can set my main Kodi box to wake the server before playback. How do I get the Movie server to automatically wake up when trying to play something from the web browser GUI or Fire Stick or when it does a library scan? Edited June 12, 2017 by T800

How do I get the Movie server to automatically wake up when trying to play something from the web browser GUI or Fire Stick or when it does a library scan? I have requested a feature to give more control over library scan twice (to deaf ears) as when a scan performs when your media is offline emby display looks a mess. Also In my opinion all clients should have WOL built in same as all WMC clients had it built in ( start the client and it would wake emby if asleep). But that's just my opinion....
T800 10 Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 I've been having issues scanning my movies for a little while now, for the 1st few seconds because the drives hadn't spun in time it deletes the 1st 350 movies from the library. I ended up canceling Scheduled Library Scan, made a bookmark for the movie "2 Guns", start playing the movie and then after seeing the movie start, stopping it and doing a scan. Wouldn't be too bad if a library scan didn't delete content that wasn't currently attached and only removed content on a "clean". Still doesn't get me around the wake up from a browser/Firestick. Is there a reason Emby Server doesn't WOL when asking for the content?
Luke 42080 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 web browser GUI Not possible. Web browsers can't issue wake on lan requests. Fire Stick do you mean using the Emby for Fire TV app?

Couldn't the server do it on request as it's on the same network at home? It's only me that uses the Web browser at work and I can wake the server so not the end of the world. Yes the Emby app on Fire TV
Luke 42080 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 You're asking for the server to wake itself? You need to use another device to wake the server, so in that sense, yes it is possible this to be handled in the fire tv app.

I like to sleep it whenever it's not being used. I actually have a powerful MacBook Pro as the Emby Server as my two unRAID servers aren't very powerful (TV Show one is always on but I sleep the Movie one). Could we have it so when a movie is asked for the Emby Server sends a WOL request to the server required? Maybe even have Emby know which server sleeps and which doesn't so it can ping the server and if no ping comes back it sends WOL request, it waits a pre-determined programmable amount of time and then starts the movie? That way the web gui or any Emby capable entity could actually wake the server. This could also apply to the library scan issues when servers are sleeping: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46256-kodi-missing-moviessometimes/ Like my 2nd post in this thread explains I have to play a movie every time I do scan/clean to make sure my drives are spun up. It's either that or I keep the 16 HDD's spinning constantly. Edited June 15, 2017 by T800

Waking a separate file server has been requested but not implemented at this time. We are looking into how to refine our Emby server wake functionality in the apps now.
