shivalwolf 0 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Currently when using streaming devices like the ChromeCast Ultra which supports 4k HEVC content if the audio is supported by the Chromecast such as AAC then the content is directstreamed perfectly fine. This was tested using a MKV file as an example that is 4k HEVC with AAC audio However if the Audio is in an unsupported codec then both the video and audio are transcoded. This was tested using a video clip that is 4k HEVC with the DTS codec. DTS is not supported by the chroemcast so resulted in transcoding. Would it be possible that the 2 streams could be demuxed so that the video could be sent directstream but the audio gets transcoded.
Luke 42086 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Hi, that shouldn't be happening. Can you please attach a copy of the ffmpeg log? You can learn how to do that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks !
shivalwolf 0 Posted June 10, 2017 Author Posted June 10, 2017 Apologies. silly my didn't consider this might be a bug before a feature request. The log appears to show that its transcoding the video down to h264 even though another test video I was using the only difference was the audio codec and number of audio channels. thinking about it now maybe its the dual audio track that is in this test file. ffmpeg-transcode-848dfa24-2222-44b5-8d0a-5c062bcd13ec.txt
Luke 42086 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 @@shivalwolf, please give it another try and see if the result is any different. Before doing so, make sure to completely disconnect emby from chromecast such that it is showing the default chromecast scenery. Thanks.
shivalwolf 0 Posted June 10, 2017 Author Posted June 10, 2017 Test video now plays fine. What was wrong? what changed?
Solution Luke 42086 Posted June 10, 2017 Solution Posted June 10, 2017 We were capping the chromecast ultra video bitrate at 40mbps. I could not find what led us to that original amount so I just removed it. 1
