Kodi Media Import Feedback

I am hoping that this is not a bad time for the devs. Right now Montellese seems very motivated to complete this, but according to him, his python foo, and knowledge of addon requirements are not as good as those of core and C/C++.  He has been very active the last couple of weeks on this and other kodi projects that he has been working on. The others has been PRed to Kodi Master and I suspect with a bit of help, Media Import could be PRed soon.

As we all know, devs are volunteers and work when are are free and motivated. It would be great if a dev here with the knowledge and skill is free and motivated, so this could be done before he gets too busy or his interest shifts to something else.

I am no developer, so I cannot say for sure, but I suspect that a lot of what needs to be done is already present in Emby for Kodi, except one would be using the new API, instead of talking with the database directly.

Fingers crossed,

LongMan

Anything I can help answer?

His post and the rest of the thread is here. https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=224794&pid=2599162#pid2599162

It seems he is looking for

  • Someone to help complete the python addon, it is just a proof of concept now. He had originally written it in C, but he feels a python addon would allow more people to participate.
  • Guidance in developing the API. Emby is the first external source that he has tried, so feedback as to whether the API so far has the required elements and if not, how it can be modified or extended

Those I think are the main points.

Cheers,

LongMan

How does this plugin differ from the existing Emby for Kodi plugin?

It wouldn't. My understanding is this is just an example to be copied later. So we'd have emby for kodi, using the new api in c++ to add content without directly writing to the database.

If the database isn't written to directly would allow the plugin to be included in the built-in Kodi repository?
