As the title states, I paid for the app and for a month to test, believing this would allow me to set it to use MadVR for rendering only to find that it doesnt, and then to find that you are going to be removing compatibility or, as it appears, already have done.

So, what are my options? I wouldnt have paid if I knew support was dropped and would have continued with my hard wired solution and MPC.

Have you replaced the compatibility with MadVR with something that can also allow the playback of HDR UHD content on a non HDR 4K TV? Or am I out of luck? If so, how do I go about getting a refund?

In no way does that help me at all.

I'd like a refund. I will give it until tomorrow before requesting a refund through paypal

How doesn't it help you? The gist of it is that madvr went away because emby went with a different renderer which makes it easier to develop in the long run. I believe that most of the options for madvr have been incorporated into the new release. That thread really does have a lot of good info from other users that were using madvr.

It would be good for you to post in that thread if you haven't already done so. @@Luke can really explain the tech behind it better than I can.

I think the issue is that for most MPV is not a replacement for madVR in most cases. madVR does much more than have nice upscalers and those who use madVR usually do so for a very specific reason (MVC 3D, 3dluts, HDR, etc).

What should have been linked is this comment by Luke stating the madVR will be making a return in a few weeks.

If the OP is willing to use version 2.5.40 which still has madVR support until it is added back into the current version of ET he may be happy with the software and not need a refund.
