Commerzpunk 5 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Hello, i am testing with emby since month and facing a lot of problems accessing my files. There are different types of shares i tried. On my synology NAS, on the OpenMediaVault, playing arround with guest access, groups, names, etc. The success is very little and its frustrating. I read a lot "give Emby access". Simple question: On the source, lets say Synology NAS, what is the USER and the PASSWORD i have to create and give access to the source folder that i want to access from my emby server? Thanks
pünktchen 1409 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Why do you think you have a user access problem?

Thanks if you run Emby as a service create a local pc account (run emby service as this pc account) and same username/PW on the nas and give this account the required access
Commerzpunk 5 Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 I am running it in a docker containter inside OpenMediaVault.
pünktchen 1409 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 And where exactly is your problem? Give us some more details or should we guess!?
Commerzpunk 5 Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 If i choose my share, e. g. "\\nas-27\music" there are either no items showing up (of course there are many), but not asking for credentials to accces, what would be the most easy way. Playing arround with names, guest, etc. makes the items appear, but i dont know what i really did and what i broke or what security issues i opened while testing. Scanning them makes albums availible but no one track is showing up or playing. Just installed plex. Not that much options and i dont know where it leads. But it works from the first second, very easy, very shiny. Maybe i am too stupid or your product is too complex. Sorry, i come back later.
pünktchen 1409 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 If Emby is running on a non MS Windows system and you want to access shares from another server, you'll have to mount those share permanently in your system. Then set your mountpoints as library sources in Emby and your shares as optional network path.
Commerzpunk 5 Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 Thank you! As i am using emby as a docker container in my OpenMediaVault NAS i guess i have to mount these shares inside the docker container. Plex provides this in a way that is usable for me, see here: https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/plex/ -v /data/xyz - Media goes here. Add as many as needed e.g. /data/movies, /data/tv, etc Not too easy as i am a user and not a nerd, but i made it. Within emby and the emby docker container: impossible for me. Sorry again, i am a bit pissed from trying for weeks.
pünktchen 1409 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Maybe you should have asked earlier for some help I'm sorry i cannot help you anymore because i don't use Docker, but other guys here are doing it successfully. Also today is sunday, so don't expect an answer...

pünktchen 1409 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Didn't saw this. But don't give up. Maybe Plex is sometimes easier to setup, but if you have a problem there than you really get a big problem Ps. MediaPortal war auch nicht immer einfach! 1

The way you described of mounting shares in the plex docker, is not a feature of plex but rather one of the basic functionalities of docker. May I ask why you think or what confused you about our process that has made you perceive the process aa difficult. It is our goal to make the process as friendly as possible. Your feedback would be greatly values and appreciated. Thanks Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

Commerzpunk 5 Posted June 22, 2017 Author Posted June 22, 2017 (edited) Alright folks, back from holidays. First: with my batteries charged i did a new testing and google session. My major and basic problem seems to be solved! There is still a huge and very basic problem, not only emby has it, most of the IT industry has. Luckly i am working in IT but not as a coder or nerd, just as business man. One of my most important sentences is (not sure if translated correct) "Technology must serve the people, not vice versa". The open source (and Linux) community suffers that a lot. The main goal is to make technology and software availible for everybody and for free but often they set huge obstacles and make things very technical. For example, my case: NAS are made to make life easier and put a lot of funcionallity in one device. More, docker is made to make software installation and distribution more generic and easy. Result after many weeks: with hours and hours of testing and learning about technical things i finally didnt want to know it works. Impossible for eg. my father or a construction worker with no idea from IT. Goals missed. Back to topic: The solution is: 1. Use a plugin for OpenMediaVault called "RemoteMount". (Its in the OMVExtras, you need to install this before.) Great, exactly what i needd, i can add a folder from my other NAS, set credentials and volume names and its permanently mounted to OpenMediaVault. Did that with my needed folders for movies, photos, music and so on. 2. Understanding Docker GUI Plugins from OpenMediaVault (OMVExtras) Its more easy to use a already remote mounted folder (see point 1) then trying to reach a folder from my other NAS from inside emby inside docker. So, would be great to add a mount / bind to emby docker container as i can do it in the Plex container. There where 2 things going wrong for me: a) The Plex container gives "suggestions" for the mount options. emby doesent. Not sure if its a emby problem or a docker / docker plugin problem. That did make me think its not possible to mount and (see when i made a entry for testing it was not saved and did not work. Solution: I found this link from the docker gui, it says you HAVE TO PRESS THE + BUTTON. Because i always just put in one value for testing i never pressed the +. Now my basic setup is completed and i can dig in more into Emby because its a lot more attractive, faster developing and friendly then Plex is. But remember: Plex took me minutes to work. Thats what users and subscribers want! Cheers, Edited June 22, 2017 by Commerzpunk
Luke 42080 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 @@Commerzpunk, what kind of suggestions do you mean? can you give examples? thanks. Also, this is not specific to Emby, correct? when i made a entry for testing it was not saved and did not work.
