adam1010 19 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 When I have a TV show that has no "Thumb" image (at the Show level), it shows no background image when displaying episodes in the "Next Up" list (just a solid colored background). I often have a "Backdrop" image loaded for the TV Show (as this image type is more common on TVdb). For instance "American Ninja Warrior" has Backdrops available, but no Thumbs. When the Thumb is missing, the Backdrop should be used for the background (if there is one) instead of the solid color. You could probably solve this at the server level by just always filling in the TV Show "Thumb" image with the "Backdrop" image (instead of updating the logic on all the client platforms). (Note: I have Episode level thumbnails turned off because I hate spoilers. So the TV Show "Thumb" image is always what is shown as the background for all episodes)
adam1010 19 Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 All of them. I've double-checked the web-app, Android mobile, and Android TV app. The web and Android mobile are showing the next episode with a red background, as the Android TV is showing it with a blue background (with a TV icon overlay). I've confirmed the TV show does have a Backdrop loaded (and it's landscape/16:9 dimensions) Let me know if you need screenshots.
Luke 42080 Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Thanks, it is resolved for the next set of releases.
adam1010 19 Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 Great, thanks! I'll try the next server release (as of server v3.2.19.0 it's not resolved)
ebr 16185 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I know this has been working with Android TV for a week or so now. What version are you on?
adam1010 19 Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 @@ebr I have the latest version (server & Android TV & Android mobile). Android mobile and web interfaces are definitely still broken. Android TV I do some some improvements, but I'm still seeing episodes (where the Show itself has a Backdrop image loaded) that are still showing a generic blue tile with a white TV icon overlay. So Android TV is still a problem on v1.4.17g
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Can you post screenshots to ensure everyone is talking about the same images.
adam1010 19 Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 Screenshots attached (2 from Android TV, and 1 from the web client). On Android TV it appears to just be broken on some views/screens and not others. So the update was a partial fix.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 (edited) So this is a specific app issue. I added the American Ninja Warrior and it used the Poster for everything and backdrop for Latest and Next Up (Home Screen). (web client) But truly the easiest fix is save a Series backdrop as a Thumb.jpg or Landscape.jpg v3.2.20.0 Edited June 13, 2017 by Happy2Play
adam1010 19 Posted June 13, 2017 Author Posted June 13, 2017 Yeah I think they're handling this in all the different apps and not at the server level. Yes in the past I've downloaded the "Backdrop" and re-uploaded it as the "Thumb" to solve the issue case-by-case, but I figured I'd report it as a bug to see if the devs were willing to fix it (since it sounds like the intended functionality is to show the Backdrop if no episode "Thumb" is available). I'll go back to doing that if this fix isn't coming soon. My "American Ninja Warrior" is showing correctly in the "Latest" section on the web app, but it's actually not working in the "Next Up" and "Continuing Watching" sections. So apparently the code that determines which image to show is not shared globally (might be time for some refactoring). For this show I don't have any images loaded at the Season/Series or Episode level, just at the Show level (Logo, Primary, Banner, Backdrop)
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I bet it worked for me as it was a new series so was nothing cached from previous server builds. So it may take Refreshing the Series on the new server version.
adam1010 19 Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 @@Happy2Play -- I did a "Refresh" on the Series (replacing Metadata and images) and that didn't seem to help. I upgraded my Android mobile to 2.9.08 and that seemed to resolve the issue in some places. On Android TV it is showing the Backdrop image in the "Continue Watching" and "Next Up TV" home screen sections (As expected -- though it incorrectly cropped it to a vertical/dvd-cover/movie aspect ratio). When I go into the Series it also shows the Backdrop image properly (although cropped wrong again). So that's good enough for me On Android Mobile it is showing the Backdrop image on the home screen correctly. However, when viewing the series itself the image shown is the vertical "Primary" type and not the "Backdrop" type (see below). Same with the "Next Up" section within the series/show. On HTML5/web, it's broken pretty much everywhere (see below) -- including the home screen and within "Next Up" on the Series info page.
Luke 42080 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 the top portion of your android mobile screen looks fine to me, other than the backdrop being empty. but the primary image is correct. the bottom portion with next up does not.
adam1010 19 Posted June 14, 2017 Author Posted June 14, 2017 For my Android Mobile screenshot -- I have a "Backdrop" image loaded for that Show (which is generally the image type it displays there, even if a "Thumb" is available) --- but you're saying it's correctly showing the Primary image?? (which is the vertical, instead of the landscape Backdrop which would fit better) At the bottom in that "Next Up" section it's using the "Primary" again, instead of the Backdrop. I'd think anytime you have a 16:9/landscape box you're trying to fill you would want the Backdrop image so it fully fills the box. I checked a show that has both a Thumb and Backdrop image available and it's showing the "Primary" art as well -- so it appears those boxes don't first check for a "Thumb" then a "Backdrop" before defaulting to "Primary" --- maybe that's what you want, but I'm thinking not (unless you're able to check the dimensions of the "Primary" art on-the-fly to see if it's appropriate for landscape use)
