Hi all,

I just wanted to share a little fun I have with the new version of ET.

As it now uses the pretty powerful mpv video player, which supports nearly everything via lua scripts, you can do amazing things with it.

So, what have I done?

There is a little tool called LEDSdriver, which I was using for many years with Windows 7, Windows Media Center and emby for WMC.

I was using this together with a little gadget called I-Buddy, which showed with different LED colors, if media center was playing, paused or recording.

Now, recording is done by the server with NextPVR and the HTPC moved to Windows 10 with Emby Theater and no Media Center.

There I was beginning to miss that little gadget, but thankfully, LEDSdriver supports calling user events via commandline.

So I wrote a little script (attached) that does the following:

  • If a video is played, USEREVENT1 is on
  • If a video is paused USEREVENT0 is on
  • if a video is unpaused USEREVENT0 is off
  • if a video is stopped USEREVENT0 and USEREVENT1 are off

In the LEDSdriver interface you can now set what happens on these events.

I have it set that the little heart lights up, when a video is played and the head shines blue, when I pause.

With the default settings it might also be useful, if you have your PC not in plain sight, as you can also have a light if the PC is powered on.

So, how do you install this?

  1. Get some supported LED hardware (I recommend an i-Buddy, if you can find or own one). You can even control your keyboard LEDs (not tested by me) or build your own for serial port.
  2. Download and install LEDSdriver
  3. Download the attached zip file iBuddy.zip
  4. Open/unzip the file and copy "iBuddy.lua" into "%APPDATA%\mpv\scripts" (if the dir does not exist, create it)
  5. You might need to adjust the path where you installed LEDSdriver inside the script, the default path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\LEDSdriver\LEDSdriver.exe" (to change the path open "iBuddy.lua" with text editor and change it, it should be obvious)

I hope this might be useful for someone, have fun with it!

Ciao, Alfred
