all4dom 101 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I'm just curious what are people using to retrieve all the media info for there content. I used to use meta browser but from what I read I don't think fatal is still supporting it.
Luke 42078 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 You will be fine with Emby internet metadata providers.
jasonmcroy 316 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Emby scrapes metadata just fine for me with the exception of the occasional TV Show that there are different series from different years (The Flash, Scream Queens, Bull come to mind). However, pretty easy to fix those anomalies with the "Identify" feature and move on.

Yes, I am aware of that and would prefer that naming scheme but when you record using the emby DVR it creates season names without the year attached. If I change the one show that needs a year attached then the next time Emby records that show it will create a new folder without the year attached and the scrapers think it is the old show and it creates a mess. I have asked in the past if the naming scheme could be changed to include the year but I never received a response. The Plex DVR creates the season folder with the year included in the naming scheme. It just makes a cleaner folder structure in my opinion.

However, what we need to be sure of is that that doesn't make identifying series that don't need the year a problem. In the past, it has been. e.g. If you had the year on a series that did not have a duplicate, the tvdb search would not find it. Perhaps they have improved this at this point, however. 1

That would be perfect for me. I am pretty sure the information is there. Maybe make it an option or something for those who may not want it structured that way? I didn't know that it sometimes creates a problem to have the year included. I've never had an issue when I used to use MCEBuddy to rename my files and include the year. I don't use it now with Emby because now that nfo file is created in the TV Recordings folder and I always ended up with folders that just had a bunch of nfo files in them after MCEBuddy finished processing them.

At the time we record something, it is just a single episode. We often have a series name associated with it but we do not have the year that series began (the year the episode is in won't work). In order to get that, we have to look up the series. But, in order to properly look up the series, we have to know the year... see where that goes . So, this is a harder problem than it seems (at least with our current data availability). 2

Thanks for the in depth explanation! I completely understand what you mean. Wow, pretty complex situation there. I am happy to know why though. Thanks again!
