avalon65 2 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 I have the emby server installed on my FreeNAS box but lately I get a message telling me that emby is out of date, and upgrade to the latest , or something similar. Now my point is, why should an older version of emby not run or work, as older OS's and programs do work. I cannot update emby on my NAS box by the GUI, but have updated it from a cmd line in a shell, although the version number has not changed.
avalon65 2 Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 What version are you running? It is version 3.1.0 I am using
Luke 42086 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 That's not right. The latest revision of 3.2.X should be available.
Luke 42086 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Why can't you follow the regular freenas instructions?
avalon65 2 Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) Why can't you follow the regular freenas instructions? I have been told on the freenas /ubuntu support forum that it needs to be mounted in emby 'You need to mount it to your emby server, not freenas. What is your emby server? Is it a jail, vm or a different host?' Also my original question was why can't an older version still work as it did before. Edited May 26, 2017 by avalon65
Luke 42086 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Mounted in your OS as a local path, then added to Emby using the local path. Does that make sense? As far as versions go, can you please be more specific about your question? I don't really understand what you're trying to ask. thanks !
avalon65 2 Posted May 28, 2017 Author Posted May 28, 2017 I have emby version 3.1.0 amd64 on my FreeNAS box and it has worked well, until an update came out. I also have emby client on an old tablet. which has also worked well. On the tablet I tap the emby app, the select the emby server , which is on my FreeNAS box, but the emby server won't run and says that it is out of date and there is an update available, or similar. My question is that as there are many older OS's and programs which still work PC's as the should, why can't an older version of emby still work

Reason being, the app is depending on newer features that are only available in newer versions. If we have to support every possible old server version then it would just be too much for us. By limiting the age of old servers that we support, this helps us increase our "just works" factor.
