Movies freeze after 26 minutes and then require a PC reboot

Hi,

So far less than impressed with the latest ET change. Currently running version 2.7.1. Current on my Nvidia drivers and completely up to date on Win 10 pro 1607 64bit.

Attached is the last log file from when I tried to watch tonight, though it doesn't really say much, at least as far as I can tell.

What happens is I'll Boot my PC and then Start ET (Auto start also isn't working). I pick my movie (Bluray MKV) and hit play. Everything's great (as far as bitstreaming the lossless audio track and ignoring the fact that my display no longer auto switches to match frame rate and any attempt to match the settings I had running perfectly fine in MadVr cause stuttering and dropped frames, etc... but I digress) until just about 26 minutes into the movie. At that point the video freezes with a spinning circle overlay and after a few minutes dumps me back to the movie details page. Any attempt to resume the movie results in the spinning circle for a few minutes and then nothing. Trying to play a different movie yields the same result. It is Interesting to note that everything else about ET seems to function properly at this point...Just not playback. I then close down ET and attempt to relaunch the program. El zilcho! I get a brief windows loading icon on the mouse cursor and then nothing. Even with the windows Task manager open I can't see where it even made an attempt to actually launch ET.  All I can do at this point is reboot my PC, after which everything works fine again... for 26 minutes.

In the past when I've had a problem, it's usually a simple fix. I'm hoping that's the case this time as well.

Also, any hint at when or if automatic frame rate switching will get added to the new player. That seems to be a lot of people's biggest gripe about the move away from Madvr and yet I've heard almost no mention of it by any of the Dev's. Maybe I just missed it somewhere, but if not it would be great to know where we stand with that.

Thanks.

Hi, yes we do plan to add frame rate switching. I haven't seen a lockup at 26 minutes but I will start a movie now, let it play and see how it does. Thanks for the report.

Just a bump to indicate that I'm still having this problem, though I think of narrowed down the circumstances of it's occurrence. I played a movie the other day and had no problems so I figured that an update had fixed the issue. I played a movie yesterday and it froze right at 26 minutes and 48 seconds!  Hmmm... So what's the difference turns out that both movies I was playing that caused the problems I listed in my first post were 3D Bluray MKV's with the embedded MVC stream. Note that I don't have a 3d display and am not actively trying to play them in 3D... I just ripped them to future proof when I eventually upgrade. So, after noting that, I rebooted and played a non 3D rip and there was no issue. I'm now 99% sure that this is the specific issue and likely the reason why not many people are seeing it. If anyone else has 3d MKV's with an MVC stream please try playing them normally in Theater and see if you experience the same issues.

This is very similar to the problem I have been experiencing with movie playback. It goes away for awhile so I think an update fixed it but than it comes back with avengence. It does occur at about 25 mins everytime. The only difference I am having is I can restart my movies but it only plays for another 25 mins and stops again.

Yep...I am getting this issue.  Just a few minutes ago at 24:35 movie stopped and had to kill all electron and emby processes to get playback to work again.

Not sure if it was merely a profile issue or what....but a re-install of Win10 fixed this issue for me.

@@Harblar so you're only seeing this with 3d content?

Correct. Only On BluRay's I've ripped with MakeMKV and included the MVC stream on. I don't actually play them in 3d mode, but they always worked just fine in normal 2d in the past. Even now they, look fine until they lock up. I havent tried playing much in the last few days to verify this, or tried it with any versions of ET newer than 2.7.9 (haven't had time to check and see if there are newer versions than that over the last couple weeks.) If there are, I'll give them a try and report back.

This bug is still present for me in version 2.8.1 when using MPV.  When I switch back to Madvr it all works as it should.

Have you tried playing it with the standalone?

He means standalone MPV.

He means standalone MPV.

The one built into emby, or actually downloading, installing MPV, and running it like I would for Windows Media Player?

The former is where my issues are, the latter I haven't tried yet.

You can use this. Just unzip and run the mpv.exe. Drag 'n' drop your movie on it. I've added a basic config file, and it will run as a portable, so it won't interfere with Theater.

I feel we just really need a version before MPV was rolled out that we can just use with no autoupdating involve to fix our current issues

See post #10.

Yea I understand that Luke, I just mean we end users need a copy with no MPV at all. I'm still having trouble with live TV and MPV but stopped reporting about it because it feels like I'm beating a dead horse
