Hi, I probably overlooked this info somewhere, but I couldnt figure out if directplay is available.  It seems everything I play gets encoded, even stuff that should have the correct codecs. It also only shows the options to encode under quality.

Am I missing something. or is this not implemented yet?

THanks.

What clients are you using? Different clients will direct play different codecs and bit rates. Also if the video is good for direct play and the audio isn't it will transcode the audio only. Same for adding subtitles if they aren't in the container.

Thanks for the reply.  I didnt test extensively since the windows 8 app had a short trial period, buy I'm pretty sure that was transcoding everyhting.  All the browsers appear to be transcoding.  I just tried the MB Theater and it seems to work great.

I guess I'll have to figure out what works where. Is there a wiki page somewhere saying what clients support what codecs?

@@nrk112, apart from some specific codes for the web player, every "mobile" app and browsers will need the server to transcode.

MBT and MBC are the ones that uses direct play. :)

We don't really have a wiki page on that, but it doesn't so much depend on the client app as it depends on what the device can handle. The web client is the only exception because that's subject to html5 limitations. But if you read the server blog about the last couple releases, you can see the improvements that have been made in avoiding transcoding.
