HyperText_Hero 0 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) So I have a database with about 50,000 files, 1000 of which are movies. I have a movie named "It (1990).mpg" and "It" for some reason is not showing up on my server even after scanning. Is there any way through emby to search for files based on file names since I can't figure out what it was incorrectly identified as? Edited May 9, 2017 by HyperText_Hero
Happy2Play 9785 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Well my guess it is it is do to metadata title "Stephen King's It" so it shows up under "S". You have to add a Sort Title name for it to show under "I".
HyperText_Hero 0 Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 Yeah, I know how to do that. The problem was finding the file cause Emby wasn't showing it anywhere, and I did look around but wasn't trying to go through 1000 movies just to see what Emby decided to do with it.. I just renamed the file on my server to Stephen Kings It and rescanned and it found it. I was just curious if there is a way to search for files based on the file names. I suppose I could have opened the database file and just did a ctrl+f and looked but it would be easier in the web interface.
Happy2Play 9785 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) Sorry, all names are taken from Title provided by metadata providers and displayed in the UI. Edited May 9, 2017 by Happy2Play
HyperText_Hero 0 Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 No, I understand how that all works. But sometimes I just have issues with files getting incorrectly tagged and instead of trying to find them it would be nice to just search in the management page of Emby or the metadata manager to find files based on the file names. IDK. just saying,
HyperText_Hero 0 Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 In the future I'll just remote access my server and open the database file I suppose.
Luke 42086 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 hi @@HyperText_Hero, did you just rename the file, or did you also move or re-organize it? It's always possible that initially it wasn't scanned at all due to unrecognized folder structure. What does the folder structure look like? thanks !
HyperText_Hero 0 Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 hi @@HyperText_Hero, did you just rename the file, or did you also move or re-organize it? It's always possible that initially it wasn't scanned at all due to unrecognized folder structure. What does the folder structure look like? thanks ! I renamed the file and folder and then forced a scan. It appears it was just a problem with the file being recognized, probably cause of the short length of the name, not sure. My file structure is fine..... "\video\movies\*movie title*\*movie file*".... with the file and folder having the same name with the year.
HyperText_Hero 0 Posted May 9, 2017 Author Posted May 9, 2017 But still, it would be nice to have a search feature for file names since I've come across this issue a couple times and had to manually find files. I also DJ and some of my music isn't correctly tagged so when I'm out at a gig I will remotely pull up music and there are times that songs that are on my server aren't showing up even after tagging the songs using Piccard. I literally then have to use RDP to download the songs instead of using Emby which would be much easier. I know a lot of this falls on 3rd party databases and metadata but I would still like a way I can find a file based on the filename that I know exists instead of the meta that emby is using.
Luke 42086 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Can we look at a specific example? If we can look at it in more detail then we can probably find an explanation for it. Thanks !
