mgworek 134 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I am currently running the server as a docker on my unraid server. It is time for me to upgrade my server. I am watching to switch from AMD to Intel and wanting to take advantage of intel hardware for transcoding. I haven't done research with how that works inside a docker. I can either get a 1 kick ass server on unraid and run my 8-10 dockers on or get an ok system to continue running unraid for my file server and then kick a kick ass machine to run linux and all my apps natively instead of dockers. Not sure if it makes a difference or not? If not, I will stick with one machine to save power and space. Thanks!
mastrmind11 722 Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 It's more of a preference I think. I'm not a huge fan of docker, but others swear by it. However, regarding your switch to Intel, you are going to find QSV acceleration support pretty lacking on Linux, though some appear to be having some success using VAAPI, which might make your motivation to upgrade your server moot. 1
