Adding a shared folder from Synology to library

Hello everybody,

i have tried it for hours now, i need your help.

Here is my setup:

Running Emby server  3.2.13.0 in a docker package inside Open Media Vault 3.0.70.

I have a Synology NAS running DSM 6.1.

There is a shared folder called "Filme" on the NAS which i can access from Windows fine using "\\NAS-27\Filme".

Of course i have to authenticate with my user.

When try to do the same inside the Emby configuration and put "\\NAS-27\Filme" as a folder in the library i dont get access.

After i activated the "guest" and gave the guest full access to "Filme" the file/folder structure shows up in Emby.

But scanning takes a second or 2 with no result and no error.

I read a lot "give emby access to the shared folder". But i cant find HOW?!

Who can help me how to set up this?

Thanks

Are you running Emby as a service or under your user account?  Sounds like a case of running as a service when the service account has no rights to that volume.

Running as a user I just logged into the share, told Windows to remember my PW, and then added the path to the relevant library.  Scan picked everything up just fine.

Hi,

thanks for answering.

I dont know how Emby is running, i just picked the docker container, started it and all looks good.

How can i find out how it is running?

If it is running as a service: What is the user name and the password i have to set in my Synology shared folder?

Nevermind then, you don't appear to be running the Windows server.  The questions aren't directly relevant. I don't use your version of the server.  You may want to post in that forum.

Ah, ok, thanks!

I see that now, i thought i should ask in the general section, didnt see its more for Windows.

Would any moderator please move this to "Linux"? I guess my question belongs there.

Sorry for disturbing.

Hello,

here are my logs.

There are 2 Versions.

Both come from a file that i open from Adminstration-Panel -> Logs.

The most recent file was called "server-63629260718.txt" there.

I made 2 Versions of it.

1. embylog_full.txt which is basicly the full file.

2. embylog.txt which starts from today right after waking up the VM and performing a library scan.

Hope this helps.

embylog.txt

is this actually a valid path?

/run/s6/services/emby-server/nfs:/nas-27:/volume1/Filme

Hi Luke.

No, its not.

But its not what i have written and can review in the library path section.

See:

590a3e78201bb_2017050322_31_55Bibliothek

There is only "\\nas-27\Filme".

I guess i have to know what kind of permissions i have to create on my shared folder on the NAS to make it availible for emby.

Because when i start a library scan i can hear the NAS drive make some sound like there is at least the try to access it.

Any more information you need?

Hello Luke!

Thanks a lot, I updated my test-docker to Version 3.2.15.0.

Adding the directory worked fine, the database did scan and got results, i can see all my movies in the library.

But there are a lot of errors in the log and i cant play any movies.

See attached log, here are some of the errors:

System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Directory 'smb:/nas-27/Filme/Jesus liebt mich (2012)' not found.

^^ this comes for basically every movie, so a lot of times.

Update:

It seems to be a problem with the shared folder.

For testing, i copied a movie into the "config" path assigned to the container and set up a new library with this one movie.

Backdrop and movie information is shiny and nice, clicked "play" and the movie showed up in the browser just fine.

But whats with my shared folder? :-o

your shared folder should be

smb://

not

smb:/

Hello Luke,

i am sure you are right.

Look at my librarysetup, the directory:

59134c54c1f8e_librarypath.png

As you see, i never use smb, simply the UNC path to the shared folder.

I guess the error is somewhere in the software.

Commerzpunk

I manually changed the path to smb://

But there is no effect, see the attached log. It starts today when the server waked up, i deleted the library and set it up new with smb://

Ok, I see the issue. It's resolved for the next release, thanks.
