I can watch live TV and all videos in perfect sync, but when I watch a recording the audio is way out of sync with the video (unwatchable). This happens on both my Shield TV and Nexus Player. One possible clue is if I change settings to downmix to stereo the audio is back in sync (but obviously not an ideal solution). Any ideas?

Changing the audio setting is probably causing a transcode while the others are direct playing.  Did you have one of the conversion options on when it was recorded?

Thanks for the reply. No, I have the conversion settings turned off. They are .TS files. If I play them on the Emby server they also play fine.

Okay, then you could try turning on the conversion but, to investigate more we will need the information and logs described in How to Report a Problem

Thanks.

I have noticed similar out of sync audio on recorded TV shows when played on my NVIDIA Shields.  Emby is setup to convert my recordings to MP4 with "Preserve original audio when converting recordings (when possible)" checked.  Movies in MP4 format seem to be fine and show no out of sync audio issues.

@@3rob3, how are they being recorded?

@@nominion, as a test, what if you convert to mkv. Does that exhibit the same problem? thanks !

Hi. They are being recorded using Schedules Direct, via HDhomerun Prime, and are being saved as .TS files (no conversion option enabled). I also have a ServerWMC setup running if you want me to switch to that.

I was playing around last night attempting to get the log files for you guys, but I only had one recording. It played back perfectly (it was stereo only so I think that is another clue), so I need to record something else to get the logs. Will try tonight.

Thanks for the help.

What if you try using the conversion feature, like for example converting to mkv? Let us know if that makes any difference. thanks !

Thanks.

EBR,

I sent the log from my Shield TV. User was 'Rob', and I was playing a recording of 'Fixer Upper' at 5:46pm EST. Also, attached is my server log from the same time. Thanks for the help with this!

I have changed the settings on my server to convert recordings to MKV.  I believe there are a few things queued up to record tonight, so I should be able to test tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is related, but recent recordings are taking 30 to 45 seconds to start once I hit play.  I get the spinning wheel.  It's almost as though the server is trying to figure out the bit rate and format (trying to determine if it needs to be transcoded maybe?).  This started around the same time as the out of sync audio for Recorded TV.

What is even more interesting, if I watch a recording from months ago, it starts almost instantly.

Hi. Converting to MKV also works fine (in sync). I even tried keep original audio and it was fine as well. Only the raw recordings (.TS files) seem to have an issue.

Thanks for the feedback. We'll take a look at this.

Just circling back to see if there's any update on this?

@@3rob3 have you tried new recordings with the latest release of emby server? Thanks !

Hi, I just posted in another thread (Shield TV muting). I haven't been able to test because everything gets muted now as soon as I start playing TV. Very strange.

Posted

@@3rob3 what exactly do you mean by muted? are you able to unmute with your remote and/or turn up the volume?

Its an odd bug on the Shield when the CEC volume control option is turned on.

Any manipulation of volume will unmute the stream.

Ok just wanted to make sure we weren't delivering incompatible audio. thanks.

Out of curiosity... is this OTA TV?

I experienced this same issue with the TS container on my OTA setup.  When pixilation/noise occurs from weather or weak signal, the audio on recordings would get further and further out of sync.

I now have it convert to MKV preserving the audio, and it works MUCH better.

Emby's handling of the noise seems greatly improved over the past couple months.

No this was on cable via Hdhomerun Prime.

It might be worth re-trying this with the latest beta of the Android TV app (1.4.21+) as the internal player has been updated.  Thanks.
