Moving Content To New Drive

My apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered. I'm in the process of moving content from one drive to another to make room on the source drive. For movies that have the movie.xml file, the date added is maintained when the new movie is added. I can then remove the source version. Movie folders that do not have the movie.xml file uses the current date for date added. Not the greatest problem in the world but I like to see my movies by latest added.

Is there a way to maintain the source "date added" when I copy a folder to another drive? I have tried NFO on and off and get the same result.

Change the drive letter on the new drive to what the old drive letter is, and keep the same folder structure with the content.

One way to do it.

I'm not moving the drive so changing the letter won't work. I'm just moving enough movies to fill up the destination drive. If I have to manually change the date for those movies without the xml file I can do it. A hassle, but I can do it that way.

What is your "Date added behavior for new content:" set to?  Use date scanned into the library or Use file creation date

Dashboard-Library-Advanced

You can also look at the Timelord Movie plugin if you are Premiere user. It changes all dated added to release date.

Date added for new content is based upon the date the folder is scanned. When emby used the movie.xml file if you copied the entire folder to a new drive, the date added would hold. I'm a premier user so I can look into using date added as release date if there's no way to hold the date added to the original date set.

Thanks much.

I would have to testit, I thought Emby on reads existing metadata so it should just read existing Dated Added.

I would change the setting to be based on the file creation date. And yes, if your xml or nfo has a date added value contained inside, then that will be used.

Luke,

Sorry misstated. I'm using the file creation date in the data added behavior option and NFO is checked.  An example is I added a movie that has date of 4/19 on the source drive and was the date I added to Emby. I copied the file to a new drive yesterday. What is key is windows shows the file creation date of 4/27 however last modified date is 4/19. If the system reads the file creation date and windows uses the current date then this may continue to happen. Again it is not the biggest issue. I'll look for another movie with no xml file and try it again. If I get the same issue I'll load my log file.

Well earlier you said otherwise

Date added for new content is based upon the date the folder is scanned.

I recognized that error and said "I misstated".
