pünktchen 1409 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/commit/788ca34649440251b8dd5add26a6ea92f7559a6b Why is this removed? This was the easiest way for people coming from Kodi to get a basis without the need of something like Trakt! 2
ebr 16187 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Because its usefulness was outweighed by the number of problems it was causing. People would turn that on, then some external program would modify their nfo and destroy the information - it would disappear from Emby and they would report that Emby deleted their watched status. For the above situation, Trakt would be a good option.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 It was brought up "User data sync to nfo" but no one commented.
pünktchen 1409 Posted April 21, 2017 Author Posted April 21, 2017 It was brought up "User data sync to nfo" but no one commented.Didn't saw this! But also nobody agreed to this or liked it and it was changed after 36 hours in stable release!? If only some of the feature requests would implemented that fast... 1
Luke 42083 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 We still save to nfo's, we just don't read from them. It is constant troubleshooting for us. If you have a way of making the troubleshooting go away, please let us know. Thanks !
pünktchen 1409 Posted April 21, 2017 Author Posted April 21, 2017 So team Emby makes this concession to some dumb users who do not know how to setup their software (sonarr, sickbeard ...) that downloads pirated content, but at the same time you are permitting any plugin that doesn't use an official api for legal services. What a shame! Why don't you just make two options - one for reading, one for writing nfo (both default to off). Or make the reading option an system.xml only option and hide it from the user interface. Or read the playstates only once for newly added content but not with every library scan or nfo change. Many possibilities, but what you are now doing is just a bad excuse!
Luke 42083 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 It's not dumb users, it's other software not writing the nfo's properly. We are actually the ones who end up suffering when people think something is wrong with Emby, they potentially leave Emby and then spread that incorrect information around to other people. I am fine with restoring it via hidden config switch if you want, but we can't have it in the web interface if people are going to turn it on and then have problems. 2
Emby Tower 34 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) Why always hiding features?! There are always idiots who are dumb enough to crash an application, because they use a dozen of different programs trying to access the same content. Most of use are able to use Emby Server in the right way and now we have to accept restrictions to prevent posts from some other user?! If users edit their NFO files with external scrapers or other software, then they have to accept the problems with Emby Server! Emby itself is able to scrape the content, so why using external programs?! It's their own problem, which has not to result into a problem for other users! Edited April 21, 2017 by XBMC Workstation

mediacowboy 438 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) This is very concerning to me to. I have multiple family members wife and children I have setup to write watch status to the NFO file. As I am waiting for my tax return to come in to be able to buy 4 new hard drives and migrate over to a new server. I would like the option to import the watch status back as I do not want to setup multiple trakt accounts. As for it hurts emby to when then NFO gets corrupted. The first question should be do you have other software that scans your media. If so then they need to check that software settings as well. If they still want to blame emby then that's on them. I use other software to watch my files and have NFO writing turned off in it as emby does a better job in my humble opinion. Edited April 21, 2017 by mediacowboy

I would like the option to import the watch status back as I do not want to setup multiple trakt accounts. Then it actually doesn't affect you because if you look at nfo watch format, it only supports a single user. It is not able to accommodate multiple users anyway. Your best bet is the Emby backup plugin, which will handle all the users that you need. 1
Emby Tower 34 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 @Luke: So you kill a very very good feature because a user COULD publish a negative comment about Emby Server?! For me it sounds like some new users are more important for you then already active members (I'm a paying customer, atm!) ...
Luke 42083 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Again I'm fine with having a hidden config switch, so if we do that then you're not actually losing anything.
