One2Go 120 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 This I did not expect and I am seriously worried. On the Documentary "The Eighties" I tried to arrange the backdrop images. when moving an image up I get a generic error message that asks me to try later. Trying to move an image up in position worked but the previous image is replaced. I go back to my media server after having shut down the PC with the Emby server and restarted the UnRaid media server. The backdrop images have been replaced and instead of having 5 different images I now only have 3 different and two duplicates. None of the date stamps modified, accessed, created or last saved on the media server have been changed they are over a year old. What in the world caused that? Attached is the server log.
Happy2Play 9784 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 When this happens to me I can see in the log the OS is locking the file "file in use access denied".
One2Go 120 Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 I attached the server log to the original post but I can't see it. You are correct the error message in the log says "backdrop1.jpg' because it is being used by another process." But why would the image be replaced by an already existing one. This is scary and don't know how to protect myself from this. This should never happen. server-63628125149.txt
One2Go 120 Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 The only way I can see to be safe from this is shut down the media server, copy the images to a different PC and then arrange the images on the emby server, that is a hassle. The meta data and images in the emby server settings are NOT being saved in the media folders.
Luke 42085 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 When you use the left and right buttons it has to swap the images, that is the file overwriting that is happening. There's nothing scary about that.
One2Go 120 Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 After I used the right or left arrow and the error message appears, then when I go to the directory on the server using Windows explorer the images have been replaced on the SERVER itself by duplicates. In addition when selecting from the Edit Images selection I click on the delete image I expected it to be deleted from Emby server location but again it deletes it directly from the media folder on the server itself. Are there any settings in emby server that need to be changed?

Luke 42085 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 So you're assuming that we're storing complete copies of all your local images within Emby Server?
One2Go 120 Posted April 20, 2017 Author Posted April 20, 2017 (edited) @@Luke and @@Happy2Play Let me try to explain how I perceive things and also what I have observed in my setup. Some may be unexplainable. First I hope you do not make a copy of all my local images, because that is not wise usage of disc space and is just asking for problems. What I thought you would store is the path to the image location and when I select the trash can icon next to the image I assumed that reference to that image is gone. However in the few cases I tried to delete the image in the emby folder view displaying where it displays all the meta data and images, also that image was gone from the actual media folder don't ask me how or why I am just relaying what happened and at present what the content of the media folder is. If I just upload a new primary image without deleting the current primary image displayed in emby it replaces it and nothing gets deleted. While backdrops are collected. It is taking me awhile to get used to the way emby does things when refreshing in the meta data manager as well as how to get displayed the meta data and images in a way that is pleasing to me. For example I found out that in a folder that has multiple discs for the same movie under the top folder I can't just create disc 1 and also disc 2 folders, only one will get picked up and the stacked playback does not work for me. So I have to use disc 1 and another arbitrary name for disc 2 then it scans it properly as two separate folders. Also in the field Sort Title "The" is not being ignored is that by design? I had to delete it from dozens of movies. In addition the adding of studios in the metadata folder will only show up after scanning the library. Is there any other way of how to get studios to show up in the WMC client without scanning the library? I am almost finished with getting the Libraries to function the way they did in Legacy MB. Then the tweaking and more questions and request will come. Virtual folders like "Forecast" or "Movies by Genre" I can't figure out how to assign logo images to them, The General folder under the metadata folder has in the same name folder like "Forecast" backdrop images and they are being picked up but not logos are displayed on the EHS, but they are for the created libraries. Thanks for trying to help and I have spent days in correcting images, paths, labels and settings to get my setup working. The deleting of images is not an imagination of mine it is real. What would happen if emby would only have read access to my media servers? Edited April 20, 2017 by One2Go

All of the edit features interact directly with the actual nfo and images. So deleting any image in Emby will delete it for the movie folder. And is replacing an image not the save as deleting and resaving? Also in the field Sort Title "The" is not being ignored is that by design? Yes it is by design, as the Sort Title is to organized media to whatever is in that field exactly. In addition the adding of studios in the metadata folder will only show up after scanning the library. Manually adding anything to any folder will require a library scan to appear in any client.

That's not really much in the way of media management though. If you ever re-install Emby Server, all of those changes would be lost unless they were backed up.
