Luke 42077 Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 next release of what? Since this is the general section of the community, next means the next stable release (4.2).
daedalus 434 Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 so you mean the server and not the app, in which forum subsection we are currently in
daedalus 434 Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 should this already been sorted out? cause i have the feeling that not anyone can confirm?
Luke 42077 Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 I made some adjustments for this in the 4.2 release.
RobWayBro 28 Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 I made some adjustments for this in the 4.2 release. I have been listening via the TuneIn plugin lately and didn't notice this. Since I have been vocal in the past it was only right to try it and it does seem I am hearing songs that I had even forgot were in my library so the adjustments so far do appear to have improved the 'randomness' of shuffle from the top level ( I am currently listening via Theater on my PC desktop). Thank you Luke
daedalus 434 Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 I made some adjustments for this in the 4.2 release. don't see much improvements on watching multiple random episodes of a series on ET
daedalus 434 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) its a bit better, but i still see that some episodes get played much more often than others Edited October 30, 2019 by daedalus
Ivanm42 1 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 its a bit better, but i still see that some episodes get played much more often than othersIndeed. And they play in the same order as before.
Spaceboy 2573 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Another note of support for the lack of randomness in shuffle Sent from my SM-T510 using Tapatalk
daedalus 434 Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 so two month now, since the "last" insufficient adjustment, how is this going on? cause it's still very annoying
Spaceboy 2573 Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 I shuffled the big bang theory twice in the last couple of days. Watched maybe 5 shows the first day and the second day I was offered 2 of those 5 as the 1st and 3rd episodes in the second day. Not at all random Sent from my SM-T510 using Tapatalk
daedalus 434 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 month and month go by and the only thing that is more annoying then this bug is, that nobody seems to care to eventually properly implement this 2
daedalus 434 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 and another month in shuffle hell of emby
hstamas 179 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I know this doesn't help any but un-random, random play doesn't seem to be reserved to just Emby. I have smart playlists in Kodi for TV shows and have those set to play randomly and they are, if anything, worse in repeating themselves than Emby is so its not isolated. I remember when I had one of the first iPods it did the same thing.
ebr 16169 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Correct. Computers are actually not that good at truly "random" things... We can continue to try and improve this but we are always going to be limited to the limitations of other implementations within the platforms we are using. The smaller the data set, the less "random" it is going to feel as well.
Ivanm42 1 Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) Computers arent random, however pseudo random is enough for security porpouses, it should be also for shuffling. Edited January 30, 2020 by Ivanm42 1

daedalus 434 Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) and another 4 months of zero insight and zero progress and someone could finally move this out of the android section, cause its a general bug and nothing special to android Edited May 5, 2020 by daedalus
daedalus 434 Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 and another 4 months of zero progress, it's so dissapointing

daedalus 434 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 really? everything again from the begining? we had no progress since 3 years, we knew that emby is doing some "subpar" random funtion and knowing that, test and sample size don't matter, cause the results are the same nevertheless for sure we report that for large numbers of episodes (7+ seasons with 20+ episodes each)
Carlo 4560 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 So a playlist of video files with roughly 140 episodes?

It happens with both large and small playlists and happens to both video playlists as well as audio playlists. It is frustrating to never hear some songs or see some episodes in a playlist while hearing and seeing others over and over when shuffling.
