tak21 0 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Dear all, I have 2 servers at home. One running 24x7, the other (mainly archive and backup) only running once per week and "if needed". On the archive Server I would like to export all my beloved Star Treck series. I do not want to delete them, but I do not want them on the main server. How to configure the emby server so that he is not deleting something out of its database if the path is the archive server? (If not, emby can happily remove entries!) Thanks and regards, Thomas
Luke 42081 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 hi @@tak21, yes you can, although as of today this might not work perfectly, but we are happy to help work through issues that you encounter. Thanks !
AdrianW 1058 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I have my older content on a second NAS that is only on once a week. Emby keeps track of the content on that NAS but will usually lose images (posters, backdrops, etc) - but I can play content when the NAS is on, and a library scan repopulates the images. Maybe one day the emby scan process will be altered to ignore servers that are offline and leave the images alone.
Starlionblue 82 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 If you use "Download Images in Advance" for a library and keep the images on the server (i.e. not with the content), will they remain "intact"?
Jhag 0 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Hello, thats an very interesting thing for me, too. What exactly will happen, if a storage location is not available? Will be the Series/ Films in that location marked as offline within Emby? I don´t want "offline" Media to be deleted in Emby. Or is the only effect that i can´t access the media? And what ist happening during an scheduled rescan? Do i have to lock the Series/ Films therefore? Jhag
Starlionblue 82 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and I used MediaBrowser 2, (yes kids I'm that old, having your media in a location separate from the client (no server machine in MB2) meant losing your data constantly. I had to make batch files that ran on login so that network mappings were in place before MB2 started or "poof!" and MB had to rebuild the database. I have vague memories of lots of work going into fixing that, so that MediaBrowser didn't exterminate your library every time it was out of contact. Then MB3 came out and it all improved because my server is always on, but I'm still wondering if some of that work made it into MB3.

This way this of us with entire emby collection on NaS that uses low power state when not in use will not loose all their images, as it can make emby look ugly and unfinished.

There are at least 3 similar feature requests regarding library scans when a NAS is offline. It's not just images that get lost, it's everything, until a full library scan occurs again. 1
MEB 27 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 A dreamers feature would be the ability to mark the library that is on the NAS to send a WOL packet and waits before starting any of the content to ensure it wakes up.
Jhag 0 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Thanks for the answers, but now....I am confused!? What happens with content from offline locations? Some answers seem say yes other no. What's now the fact? Gesendet von meinem HUAWEI NXT-L29 mit Tapatalk

What's now the fact? Content is marked as OFFLINE if inaccessible, nothing is deleted. To make it online again in Emby, you would need to run a library scan when the NAS is available again.
nasti319 0 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Can someone plz tell me How to get the pin code
Jhag 0 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 @@CBers Thank you! That was the answer i was hoping for!
PrincessClevage 175 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) Content is marked as OFFLINE if inaccessible, nothing is deleted. To make it online again in Emby, you would need to run a library scan when the NAS is available again. In my setup when a scheduled library scan runs when the NAS is offline most of the images get modified and emby looks a mess until the next successful library scan completes. This makes Emby look ugly and gives the impression (to visitors) of a beta product. Edited April 19, 2017 by PrincessClevage
