mckenzie78 1 Posted April 14, 2017 Posted April 14, 2017 Hello! I'm a new user to Emby. My server version is 3.2.12.0. I'm trying to access my server from the emby app on both my Samsung s7 as well as my fire tv 2. I have followed the instructions on for troubleshooting all the way through. I can't find the link to the guide now. I opened ports 8096 and 8920 through my windows firewall and my att router's firewall. I can see the server on both apps, but it says Server Unavailable. However, if I disconnect from wifi on my Samsung I can connect to the server. I want to be able to use Emby in my home through my fire tv and not have to rely on using it through the web page (which also works) on my pc (windows 10). I was going to post logs from my Samsung, but I didn't see the option in the app. I'll attach the most recent from the dashboard. Log.txt
Luke 42077 Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 HI @@mckenzie78, are you using Emby Connect or are you manually entering the server ip address into the apps?
Luke 42077 Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 What if you try the web app from the same mobile device? Does that connect?
mckenzie78 1 Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 (edited) Update: I just tried emby on the fire tv and it opened right up, but I'm getting a message about being in trial? I thought the trial was for when you are out of your network or am I misunderstanding? So, just after typing out the above I backed out of the movie and received a volley error and I can't get back in. This is on my fire tv. I have not yet made a successful connection on my Samsung s7. I feel like this is an operator error (me). lol. I'm attaching a picture of what the fire tv screen looks like. It is the same on my phone. Edited April 15, 2017 by mckenzie78
mckenzie78 1 Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 I just saw your post asking to try the web app. I did just try to connect and it tries to load, but doesn't.
mckenzie78 1 Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) Yes. That is what I used. I just tried again and this time it logs me in and says no servers are available to connect to which is odd because I'm looking at it on my pc right now. The picture with the blue square was taken when I first tried through the web app and the other is from just now. I did click forget server this afternoon on the fire tv and then restarted the server. The ss with the blue square was done before that. Edited April 16, 2017 by mckenzie78
Luke 42077 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 What if you enter your server address into the browser url bar, as mentioned in our Connectivity Troubleshooter. Bottom line is that looks like something is just blocking the traffic.
mckenzie78 1 Posted April 17, 2017 Author Posted April 17, 2017 (edited) Before I posted here I went through the entirety of the Connectivity Troubleshooter. I opened TCP Port 8096 on both my Windows firewall and AT&T Arris NVG589 router and even the other one listed on my dashboard, 8920. I ran an antivirus (Windows Defender) scan and malware (Malware Bytes) scan and they came up clean. The address for LAN and WAN are the same on my dashboard and when I type those in to any browser (other than the pc emby server is located on), it takes to long to load. Canyouseeme.org can see both ports. The odd thing to me is that I've noticed after the last two days that sometimes Emby works on fire tv, but then has a volley.android error when I back out of whatever I'm watching. After that I get server unavailable. I've never made a connection while on wifi with my phone. Only while using data. I am also having the same issue with Plex, but I want to move to Emby because of the live tv viewing. Because I'm having the same trouble with Plex, I know it has to be on my end. I'm just not that technologically inclined to be able to figure it out. Thank you for taking the time to try to help me. I appreciate it very much. Edited April 17, 2017 by mckenzie78
mckenzie78 1 Posted April 17, 2017 Author Posted April 17, 2017 I am so excited to update that I got it working all across the board!! So, I went back into my router settings and found that my desktop was missing from the device list where I can assign custom services. Like adding the open port for Emby to desktop yada yada. I decided, what the heck, I'll try to factory reset the router and see if that would fix it. Low and behold, upon logging back into the router settings, I saw that Desktop yada yada was back on the device list so I could assign the open port to Emby to it. I tested Emby on my phone and fire tv and it works! I tried watching live tv (it worked) and backing out to watch a movie and did not recieve any volley errors, nor did I get server unavailable. I'm so very excited to have this working! Emby is what I have been looking for and now it works!
