dannydc 0 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Hi I've noticed that my server is transcoding files while I'm streaming over the net. I haven't been able to determine whether the transcoding happens regardless of what resolution is selected in the web browser (given that I only have one monitor remotely and so not being able to watch the process on the server via remote desktop while also playing a video!). I have a fibre connection (well, FTTC) so upload bandwidth is resonably good (~10Mbps) so I think it should be able to stream most things. Can anyone confirm that if I choose the highest resolution in the browser it will just stream the file without transcoding? ta Danny
gcw07 347 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 The web browser is always going to transcode to webm because that is what a modern browser uses to play videos in HTML5. I'd suggest using an actual client like the Android or iOS one if your on a phone or tablet.
Luke 42077 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Some formats can be direct played. See the blog post about the last server release
