TV episode .iso "Watched status"

Converting over from MyMovies/WMC to Emby/Kodi has been most enjoyable! Very impressed with the flexibility of this setup, as MyMovies /WMC slowly degrade and break with no hope in sight.

One thing that drives me nuts though is that with TV show ISO once you watch one on an ISO it flags all the episodes as "watched." Now I'm not expecting it to know which episodes I've watched on an .iso but I wish the episodes would have separate entries and it assume you've watched the next one when firing up an ISO. If you watch more than one it would be watcher's responsibility to toggle the watched status on the extra episodes. That's how MyMovies/WMC works and I like that very much. Is there any way to accomplish that with the Emby/Kodi combination?

Iso do not have media info on Emby because the files are not probed. When you play an Iso, the server doesn't know the length of the playback so it auto marks it as watched. There is no workaround other than not using Iso.

Thank you, i was afraid of that. I would like to fill out an enhancement request - but your explanation seems to imply that there's 'no hope' whatsoever. As I said above, wouldn't it be possible behavior to have it ASSUME that it will make the next single unwatched episode as watched and leave it to the watcher to toggle any additional ones manually? That's how MyMovies/WMC handles ISOs

In Emby they are all a single media item so they all have the same watch status. Could we revamp this? Certainly, but the audience for .iso files is not the same as it was five years ago. Even longtime iso traditionalists are seeing the benefits of plain video files. So while we could overhaul it, the question is when will it become a high priority item with respect to the other things that are being requested around the community. I'm not sure when that will be. I think if you try a season of video files you'll be convinced at how much better the experience, and I don't just mean in relation to Emby. Your choices of media software will increase dramatically with plain video files over .iso.

I know at one point Emby was probing Iso files. Would it be possible to convert that code into a plugin? What about, allowing a script to hook in, when scanning in content? Then, the user would have a chance to workaround limitations like this one without adding work for you to maintain code.

It's still active for linux. For windows the old code will only run if the server is running 32-bit, which means if you're not on a 32-bit system you have to force it to run as 32-bit. Also, it wouldn't affect this issue anyway because it only probes media info. It's still always one single entry inside of Emby.

I have 30TB of data. The only disadvantage I have right now - the only one, is this described problem up. I'm not the kind of person who wants to watch Star Trek or Flash on my iphone or at a hotel. If I don't have surround sound and my OLED it can wait until I get home. I did try MakeMKV to split one DVD of Batman Animated Series into mkv's - it worked, but I estimate that this would be a year-long project to get around one niggling annoying problem. Sigh. Oh well.

Gosh, Xnappo this is a project for tomorrow - if it works I'm taking you to a fancy dinner at your favorite restaurant!
