Chromecast dropping frames.

Using linux mint kde 18 for server.

Casting from mint 18 g via chrome

also happens casting from iphone 4s

 

Emby worked fine until some resent updates, kernel and otherwise.

 

I am storing video files on external hard drive and noticing excessive r/w access indications... not sure if related.

Noticed some errors in log, posted.  Could not find a ffmeg log.

 

Please advise.

Hi, it is direct playing so there's not much we can do about it. Perhaps the bitrate is just too high. I would suggest going into settings of the casting app and reducing the chromecast playback bitrate. It's Auto by default, but try a low value such as 3 mbps. If you lower the value so that it is below the media bitrate, then that will force it to transcode instead of direct play. Thanks.

You got me on this response.  Im using Emby webapp and was unaware that I could change streaming bitrate in the app.  It seems to work off settings from server?  I have auto thread count enabled in transcoding and also throttling so I would expect it to limit the rate for me, yes?

 

I have the server connected to router via gigabit wire and streaming to chromecast 2 via 5.6GHz wireless, CC is 5 feet from router.  Strange it was working fine a few days ago...

 

I have changed playback setting "streaming" to 12Mbps which is needed for 1080p, no change.  Could be because it is not an out of network device?

No, those are global server settings that apply to all apps, you probably want to undo those changes. What i mean is each casting all will have it's own in-app settings. Click the user icon in the top right -> playback settings.
