usermame 0 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Wondering who had the bright ideea to restrict server usage until you update it. I don't have staff hired to monitor this. I'm a lazy sysadmin. I don't like this "feature" and will stop paying for this product next time it happens.
Happy2Play 9785 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) What do you mean restrict server usage? Have you looked at the setting at Dashboard-Settings-Automatic Updates? Edited March 30, 2017 by Happy2Play
ebr 16195 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I'm guessing he got a message in an app... When we make app updates, we do keep them requiring a certain server version for two reasons: 1) Many times there are changes in the server that the apps depend on in order to work properly 2) It is very difficult to support too many combinations of app and server versions We usually allow people at least 6 months to get up to date unless there is a critical change that is needed by the app.
usermame 0 Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 By restricting server usage I mean yesterday and the day before no friend could use web to watch something because of dumb message about server requiring update. And why was this moved to Windows section? I'm using centos.
Luke 42086 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Hi @@usermame, I apologize for the topic being incorrectly moved to the windows section. About the updates, the apps will only give you that message if your server is several months behind the latest version. We work very hard to make you guys as happy as possible, and doing this helps ensure things just work. As you are probably aware, we can't prevent the app stores from automatically updating your installed apps, therefore you could end up in a situation with a new app and a really old server. For us to support that, that means we have to engineer the apps the handle lots of different server versions, and we do that, up to a certain point. Thanks !
usermame 0 Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Hi @@Luke. I was speaking about web app. I don't have this problem with plex. I think their web app is independent there.
ebr 16195 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Hi. The topic was moved here because the issue you are describing is not related to any specific app or OS. This forum is for Windows and General Server related topics. Thanks.
