edwin0126 0 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I tried to share my server with my daughter who is away in college. She was able to install emby on her Samsung tv (samsung un40ku6300f), but for some reason she is not able to use my server. I sent the invite and she accepted, but she still cannot connect to my server. What are we doing wrong.
Guest asrequested Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Yeah, and make sure that any firewall you have will allow MediaBrowser through it.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 so allow HTTP and list the ports? Depending on whether the Samsung app support self signed certificates, yes. You need ports 8096 for http and 8920 for https, unless you have changed the default ports.
Luke 42080 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Smart TV's will most likely reject the self signed cert. You will either need to use http or add your own trusted cert such as Lets Encrypt.
edwin0126 0 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 Doofus, I managed to open the ports, my question is do I need to make the WAN IP static? and how do I that?
mastrmind11 722 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Doofus, I managed to open the ports, my question is do I need to make the WAN IP static? and how do I that? They generally don't change too much, but they do change. Easiest way is to use a service like www.noip.com.

The IP that you see in the dashboard is the one you typically use, unless you have your network/ip service configured differently. How do you have your network configured?
edwin0126 0 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 I don't have anything different, I ask because I noticed that the WAN IP changes. I am assuming that I have to give my daughter who is away the WAN to connect, so if it changes than she will not be able to connect. Correct?

No. Your server phones home so the WAN is always up to date via Connect. I think that's kind of the point of using Connect. Edited March 30, 2017 by mastrmind11
Guest asrequested Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 That's a good point. Is she using Emby connect?
edwin0126 0 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 yes, she is using Emby connect. So you guys are saying that at first I give her the WAN IP that I see, then after that it will connect by itself because it already established a connection?

No. Make her a Connect account, send her the invite, and she can use the account once she verifies.
edwin0126 0 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 ok. thanks guys. I appreciate all of yours inputs.
Guest asrequested Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I'm assuming you made a user account for her in the server?
edwin0126 0 Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 I sent an invite and she accepted and now she appears as an user.
Guest asrequested Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 That's good. Now you can go into her user account settings in the server, and look at access settings.
