Sireone 6 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Is it possible to add the functionality that Plex has called 'Run a partial scan when changes are detected'? When I add a single movie to my NAS, Plex (and Kodi's Watchdog) detects the movie and downloads all metadata within 40 seconds. Emby on the other hand detects the movie right away, but then initiates a 'scheduled' library scan which takes 45Mins+ for that movie to show up. Worse of all, if a second movie is added during that 45mins time period, it is missed and another scheduled scan would have to be initiated. Also, it seems that this 45mins scan is CPU intensive which uses 50% or more during this process. Can something be done about this? I know I can't be the only one experiencing this.
Luke 42085 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Thanks for the feedback. That shouldn't be causing a library scan. We'll test that out. Thanks.
Sireone 6 Posted March 26, 2017 Author Posted March 26, 2017 (edited) Thanks for the feedback. That shouldn't be causing a library scan. We'll test that out. Thanks. I looked into this a bit further and it doesn't actually kick off the scheduled scan, but does take the same amount of time. I see this in the log as soon as I add the movie, but the metadata isn't refreshed till about 45 mins. Either way, I'm not sure what Emby is doing so long (to process one movie?) and the CPU is still heavily utilized during this process. 2017-03-26 14:47:34.3347 Info LibraryMonitor: Movies (\\NAS\video\Movies) will be refreshed. Sireone 6 Posted March 26, 2017 Author Posted March 26, 2017 Please attach the complete emby server log. thanks ! Here ya go... EmbyLog.txt
Luke 42085 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Can you try removing the kodi sync plugin, then perform a similar activity and see if this makes your new movie available in the Emby web app faster? Thanks !
dcook 299 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 @@Luke Ideally library scans would be as fast as possible, or real time monitoring would work on all file systems, but we know that is not the case, and we have situations like the OP and I have experienced where you add a single item and because it has to scan everything it takes a long time. Or you start watching the item that you added and because the scan takes so long its not finished which causes other issues like unable to skip forward or back. I think the best solution is to have library scans setup on a per library basis. If I have 5 Libraries and I add an item to Library 2, I don't want to, nor should I be required to scan Libraries 1,3,4,5 It would be way more efficient and better user experience if I can determine how often to scan on a per Library basis. 1
Sireone 6 Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 I believe that's how it's done with Plex. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
One2Go 120 Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Well, I add my disappointment to the way library scans are handled. I have two media servers, TV and Movie. The TV server was turned on and I watched some episodes on a separate playback device not using Emby server at all as a matter of fact the Emby PC was not powered up. Then I came back and turned on the movie server as well as the PC that has Emby server as well as Emby for WMC. Since the PC with Emby server finished booting up before my movie server finished its boot, Emby server must have interpreted that none of the libraries that I had create are available. The TV shows and Genre was displayed and was working fine, but None of the movies nor their Genre was available. The Library scan took 35 minutes. Are their settings that save previous library scans or where upon start up Emby server does not scan for my libraries? I noticed that after powering up the PC with Emby server a library scan is initiated, if the IP adress of the server is present but not all the shares yet, it looks like a Data Base clean is being done. Is that a correct assumption? If so how do I prevent this from happening? A selective library scan would help here.
Luke 42085 Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 This is a feature we'd like to add in a future update. Thanks !
Sireone 6 Posted May 6, 2017 Author Posted May 6, 2017 This is a feature we'd like to add in a future update. Thanks ! Thanks Luke. More importantly, if one or two movies are added to the library, the real time scan should only run against those new ones, not the entire library correct? What I've noticed is that when I add a movie, real time monitoring kicks in and I immediately get a browser popup of the new movie, which is great. When I look in the library, I see the new movie, albeit no metadata or images. Then the actual metadata scan starts which takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes, after which the metadata is presented. What is actually happening during these 30-45 minutes? Metadata retrial should take no more than 10 secs for two movies correct? Anyway thanks again on a great product!
