did cover art change? or am I missing something

After not running Emby for almost 4 years a lot has changed and alot as stayed the same.
​But what has seemed to change is cover art (not the plug in but for each movie and how it shows up).  Some movies don't have a folder.ext in them and the cover art shows up anyway.  Some movies had old cover art that I decided not to use and now i get a background image or a solid color cover art.
​now all the new dvd's i ripped yesterday all I did was put the movie file in it's folder and everything showed up.  but there is no art in the folder.  I am running the cover art plug in.  I have turned it off.  I have restarted the emby server.  I have restarted my computer.  /sigh  So for all my older movies that I ripped prior to 2014, do I need to manually add the art back in?  just clear out all the images in each file?  Because re-ripping does NOT sound like fun unless I am going to rip the bluray copy.

​Thanks for the help.  Point me in any direction.  I did read the guides about file ext for images but that really didn't answer why some movies are getting cover art with out me putting it in and why some aren't.

.......under Library in the Dashboard, click on a library image (DVD movies or whatever you've called it) and select where to store your metadata 'save artwork and metadata into media folders' and that's where it'll end up. Apparently it won't go back and move stuff you've already got, you have to refresh the items its done already.

ok, so after I set all that up I will have to go back and refresh some movies?  I didn't know I could click on my "folder" to get to more settings.
​Thank you.   Going to scan my library now. Hopefully this will fix some of my cover art.

Hopefully re-scanning will fix up some the cover art. It might help to tick that 'download images in advance box' above. I've never bothered but might help. Like it says it takes longer in the beginning but would I imagine populate more stuff in one hit. From what I've seen, things like individual episode images for TV and chapter images within TV and Movies only get added when you actually look at that item if you don't do them in advance (I think that's what happens, have never studied exactly what kinds of image are downloaded in advance vs on the fly).

 

You can always edit individual posters (or thumbs or backgrounds, etc) to your hearts content. Or tell it to search again if it mis-identifies an item.

 

Hope I haven't confused you - I've certainly confused myself.

I will say I will miss these cover art.  But I do like how Cover Art reads my movie file and will automatically change the cover to be a Bluray if the movie is in high def.

not having real problem no. I can manually put them in.

It does, but in many cases now we just save image urls and don't download the images until they're actually needed by an Emby app. You change these kinds of settings by exploring the per library settings in Emby library setup, although it will come with the cost of longer library scans.

You might be able to get that kind of image (post 6) if you fiddle about with the CovertArt plugin. Maybe. Worth a try ?

The treatment, minus the disc in front, is similar to the rounded treatment in coverart.

so if I take out all my old files for a movie that isn't getting the covers to show up and rescan then it should pull the new cover art to the file?

​I probly have all the origional covers hidding somewhere on an extranal HD.

I would assume, yes, after another library scan.  Maybe also scroll through your library on the web client, or make sure you have the box checked to download immediately in your settings (see second post).

Mine did when I re-did the images.

 

I was new so checked this and that where it loaded images into the video files folders yet had one made just for them forgot to untick the save meta to video folders then I fixed that rescanned and all went to directed folder.

 

When finished you will need to clean the area up where the were before.

 

Easy method open that drive/folder / view / details / hit "type" tab to order

 

Then select List View / Group by (drop down) select TYPE

 

 

This is windows 10 just delete by bulk

 

or tick File Name Extensions and search / delete that way

I went and found images and uploaded them.. Took me a bit but now all my movies and TV shows have images.

Yeah I have a ton of footage with no documentation history etc I have to fill all that in manually upload images I have not seen anywhere we can add our own 3rd party puller is there a way to add them?

3rd party puller? You could build a plugin that downloads metadata, like the tvmaze plugin for example.

on no I out of coding date like 8yrs.

 

I will definitely give the API good look down and see if I am compatible with attempting  I know a couple I could try to get a hold of to help possibly
