Lonald 10 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Hi all, I essentially have filled my NAS and am copying movies to a new NAS. I want to keep all of the metadata, and other related information during the change. The Emby server installation is on a separate PC, so the Backup method may not apply. The file locations in the metadata are listed as \\DISKSTATION\DVD Movies\xxxxxxx (not by a network drive letter) this makes me think that simply changing library location won't work (but that would be nice if it did!!!). I think the following would work: 1. Copy the movies over using the same folder structure and naming 2. Shut down Emby Server 3. Change the name of the old NAS 4. Change the name of the new NAS to the original NAS name 5. Pray 6. Restart Emby Server Questions 1. If this doesn't work, will the library data be scrubbed, or is the metadata stored in the movie folder? 2. If scrubbed, it may be best to go Emby Premiere and install the Backup app, correct? 3. Will the Emby Server PC need to be rebooted to recognize the new NAS names? If so, then I would turn off the Emby Server auto-start function. 4. Or can I just move the files and change the library locations and the metadata will be there? Thanks! Lon
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 i changed the location of my storage from NAS to 2012R2 all i did was remap the shares with the same drive letter and emby was none the wiser so you should not need to pray the added benefit for me was the library scans reduced to 20% of the original times on the nas 1
Lonald 10 Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 Hi Penketh, That gives hope! I mapped the drives using network paths, not mapped drives and that is why the larger number of steps, perhaps. I am guessing that you either took down emby server, or the change occurred quickly enough that the server did not do a refresh of the data. Thanks! Lon
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) i was not suggesting mapped drives just showing you it can be done easily and your process looks ok to me so did not comment on it yes i had emby off while i made the change - i dont type that quick so in your case switch it off change your nas names and ensure the paths are the same and the user permissions for the same user/pwd combo are set on the nas turn it back on it will not see any difference and should be able to go straight to the home page and browse away PS as safety net - copy your db library file so if you do have finger trouble you can roll back Edited March 18, 2017 by PenkethBoy 1
PrincessClevage 175 Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 A side question, Is your Nas on 24/7? My nas is scheduled to shutdown 8am monday - friday as only live tv gets used during work days/hours and media center goes into low power state when not used for 1hr. Problem is emby will do a media scan upon startup and nas is off and all media art will not show making emby look ugly. Just curious how others handle this. (I have also raised more configuration for emby scheduled tasks twice before but no response)
Luke 42086 Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 FYI - emby by default does not do a media scan on server startup. The only way this happens is if you configure it that way in scheduled tasks.
