JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 @@Luke,@@babgvant any chance you can release control of the LAV settings, in an advanced mode? For people like us, it would be very useful. This^^^^^ Being as such I can't seem to "hack" my way into the settings of the "built in" LAV as of yet.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Yeah, this has been an issue from the beginning. Multiple requests were made to allow us control, but it never happened. I think Luke wanted to have a standardized 'play all' solution. It hasn't worked out quite that well. There seem to be continual playback issues. I liked the old way, where we could select any option, and use any filters we wanted.
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 All I need is the option to run LAV in ET with DXVA native and I should be good. That's what yields the best results outside of ET on the same machine.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Maybe Babgvant can add that as an option, if they won't release control to us.

Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Ah! There we go. Yeah, it all gets reset by theater when you use the general settings.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 The changes I've made are global, and I set and forget.

Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) This really should be one of the available settings in the theater UI And the convert to AC3 (just thought I'd throw that out, again) Edited March 21, 2017 by Doofus
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 Disregard, I get playback with 4 set, but CPU spikes to 100%, seems there's something else I need to change. Mind you this is HEVC content I'm trying to play which my Processor will decode via DXVA.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) I think the best configuration with the settings we have available, is going to be with madVR. Especially for you, as you want refresh rate switching. MadVR has dxva settings and a lot more. Edited March 21, 2017 by Doofus
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 MADvr is giving me the most issue, External to ET, if I use LAV .69 have it set for DXVA Native, enable all the codecs for hardware decoding everything works plain and simple, MadVR doesn't seem to like the GPU on the KabyLake at all yet, no surprise it's so new and it features a whole new hardware decode block. Obviously LAV doesn't support it either at least through native QS, but it at least does through DXVANative for now which I can live with as the end result is my files play.
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 p.s. I don't need any of the "extras" madvr gives you, I just want solid file playback.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) This is all making me want my new i7 more and more. I'll be getting the 7700k, so I may not have as much of an issue. But I'm going to put it through its paces. Edited March 21, 2017 by Doofus
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 no difference in the decoder block between the i3,i5, and i7's
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 As strange as this sounds, I hope I get the same problems lol... I want to experiment Sadly, I don't have a 4k TV, but hopefully I can still recreate the problem
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 Ok, I think I just figured out the issue. The movies that work are all 2.40:1 aspect, all the movies that don't play in ET are 16:9 or 1.85:1 So any ideas on why the aspect ratio would cause one movie to play fine, and another to not??
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 So it looks like no matter what I set in ET it's just not using hardware decoding (even though I can get LAV to hardware decode just fine external to ET) My assumption here is that the files that are not "full screen" aspect ration are of course less complex and the CPU can decode/play them back just fine. I just wish I could figure this out, I really don't want to have to use an external player for ET.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Are you seeing anything in the directshowplayer, that could be responsible? So all your 1080 HEVC files play OK?
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 I don't understand the file enough to know what I need to look for, I added HEVC and VP9 to the HwaEnabledCodecs area but that doesn't seemed to have helped either. 1080p plays fine but I assume it to is only using CPU, but the CPU can decode it just fine, unlike a full 3840x2160p file.
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 Yeah with 1080p, I still see 50% cpu utilization, where externally it's always less than 10% So it looks like ET is not hardware decoding ANY HEVC
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Right, that's why I was thinking that the 7700k will have less of a problem. As for the directshowplayer, I've messed with adding types, too. To no avail. Probably because LAV doesn't directly support them or some such thing. Calling the lord @@babgvant
JeremyFr79 228 Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 Yeah so through my fooling around remoted into my system from work, I've found that nothing is hardware decoding through ET on my KabyLake, outside of ET, I get best results for HEVC and h.264, using DXVAnative in LAV .69, when I switch to QS in LAV it grays out HEVC, & VP9, which seems to be a pretty clear indicator that LAV does not support the newest QS capabilities of KabyLake as of yet. Though it does through DXVAnative. Still doesn't help me fix the issue with ET, but at least I know without a doubt the problem IS with ET and not any of my stuff.
Guest asrequested Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 I wonder how much of that is related to the Intel driver?
