Some movies will stream and some wont

I have an odd one ( I think) I copy my movies the same each time and each folder has the same permissions as all the others. yet, only a few will stream and others will not. And the ones that will stream will only play 1/2 the movie before stopping..

 

I have a windows 2016 server, quad core, 16gb ram in a VM... here is the log I am getting

I will say that streaming/transcoding from old folder-style DVD rips is considered experimental because most of the components we use don't actually support it.  But, in many cases, we can force it to work.

yes this one dose not stream. I have been making my movies collection since 2004 and all of them are copied in the format. I did it this was because back in the day it way Media Browser and it worked well with it. Should I be doing it different?  There is about 10tb of movies that are copied like this. I still use Media Browser at home manly because I can pick the folders that it displays the movies from. So AKA I have a folder called kids and all the movies the kids watch are in the folder, then in Media Center they can brows to there folder. (makes it easy on them ) I don't mind redoing all the movies in a different format, I would like it to still work in Media Browser for the folders, or is there a way to do the same thing in the Emby server.

Ebr is correct. Transcoding of folder rips is only expiremental. You can have full support for these rips but you'll need to play them from our HTPC apps such as Emby for WMC, Emby for Kodi, and Emby Theater Desktop.

 

Playing from the web app, Roku, Chromecast, etc, these do not support dvd folders natively, then server transcoding is required and that's when we consider it experimental.

when I go into media browser, then the folder, then click on the folder that has the movie, the movie is split into 4 peace's and when you click  MKV_t00 or what ever one I get an err that say cant play format. my other movies at are in a VTS format. and media browser will play those and dose not show the individual file formats.

By Media Browser, you mean Emby for Windows Media Center? It should play mkv's just fine. Try installing LAV filters.

This sounds to me like maybe you selected all the "titles" that were defined on your disc when you ran MakeMkv.  You wanted to only select the proper one (the version of the film you wanted).  Some copy protection schemes make this a little tricky to find but most discs are pretty straightforward.  But all of that is beyond the scope of Emby and there is lots of information on it on other forums.

Ok. I know your getting sick of me.   But one more question. I have found the .avi works both in media browser and Emby server online streaming. But the movie is way jumpy. is that just how AVI is or is it the quality of the software I am using? MVK works great for the server streaming but media browser wont play the media format. it is no way a hardware problem I have sooo over killed the server its not funny. Trying to find the best of both worlds. We'd have to look at an example. Best thing to do is provide the information requested in how to report a problem. 

 

Just be aware, Emby for WMC (which you're referring to as Media Browser) can play MKV no problem. I'm afraid the fact you feel that way is only your perception, however since WMC does rely on Windows Media Player, it does mean you have to install additional software in order to make it play.

there is no perception here. I just know what works for my kids... The ver of media browser I am using is 6.2. And if you remember you would install it, then go to config media browser and set the folders you wish to stream from. Back wards from what it is like today. the only reason I stick with it, is because I have a folder called kids, and in that folder all the movies the kids watch are in that, its is supper supper easy for the kids in WMC to click Media Browser, Kids then pick their film. I have only been able to get It to stream the AVI or ripped dvds. if there was some way to display the folders how I have them right now I would bail and jump ship on the "old way" and convert everything. Me and you get how navigate around, but to a 9 year old, simple is key. Heck the currant system is so simple that my toddler knows how to work it.. sorry to sounding like a broken recorded, and a pain. I understand more than most about IT support, and there are some people you wish would just upgrade so the support was not so hard to mix old with new. I will find a way around. Thanks for giving it a go for me.

You need the proper codecs which used to be a pain but, these days, just installing LAV should get you everything you need.
