Streaming and Transcoding on a windows server

Hello everyone,

I want to be able to stream MKV and possibly ISO bluray rips to my phone, browser and kodi. Which element of the Windows HTPC is going to do the work on the transcoding? CPU or GPU? Is it even possible? I have a Synology DS1513+ NAS at the moment and its weak in terms of cpu and ram.

I may be wrong in thinking this is the solution so any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

All the transcoding will be done on the system Emby Server is installed on.  So if the server is installed on the Synology then the Synology will be taxed with the transcoding.

I'm further elaboration, typically the CPU of the server is doing the transcoding. The gpu is experimental and they are working on it. Quicksync I believe has been implemented. There are some groups working on additional gpu configurations. A synology will struggle to transcode. But you can use the synology as purely a NAS and install emby server on your hype. Have you thought of pre transcoding? Pre-transcoding, while an increase in storage space, has drastically improved the user experience.
