Question about TVDB outages

I'm having issues with a lot of TV show images. Some are fine some won't show up. If I go into edit images and search for an image the ones from tvdb are blank. If I click the download button it just spins forever. I know tvdb has been down but it's up right now. I can go to the site via a browser and see the images fine. I have just done a full DB reset and rescanned the library.is anyone else having the same issue

The tvdb has been having problems for a while.  Their website and their API run on different systems and the issues could also be intermittent.

I don't think there API is up I still get "The remote server returned an error: (522) Origin Connection Time-out."  Remember the website and the API are different servers so just because one works means the other does.    You can go to Dashboard-Library-Metadata-Customize for media type drop-down and check what providers are enabled for Series, Season, and Episodes, some are disabled by default to speed scans up.

I was wondering if there was still an issue with the site on a different level. Sounds like I just have to wait. The other scrapers don't have nearly as many images. Thanks for the responses

@@Luke or @@ebr just wondering since Emby is very heavily dependent on the current handful of metadata providers, is setting up your own metadata server that all emby servers could then fetch data from something that you have considered? or is it even possible?  Perhaps make it a premiere benefit?

I am worried that if the current metadata providers continue to have problems or perhaps they will change one day and block emby server from accessing the metadata unless we pay another fee or something?

If they have their server as a downloadable package that we could install onto our own server, then yes that is something we could be interested in. That would be similar to musicbrainz which we have already created our own mirrors for.

But if that's not the case, then no, we do not have any plans to invent our own at this time.

Have you reached out to them at all?  Perhaps they would let you mirror their server for Emby users to use, which would then reduce traffic on their existing servers?

As of right now, only mirrors for apps and sites that would generate large amounts of traffic on their own (like Plex). Our site generates 1PB of traffic each month, so mirrors need a massive amount of bandwidth available for us to consider them.

Scott

Is that something you could look into?  I think if Emby had a Mirror of the Metadata it would be a big improvement and from Scott's response it sounds like Plex is already setup with a mirror.

Perhaps one day but right now I think we are pretty satisfied with what we've gotten from tvdb. They have been stable for years so the one time they do have an issue I'm not about to make a knee-jerk reaction. Anything is a possibility in the future though if there is a need or benefit for it.
