So now that plex cloud has officially been released, where everything is ran from the cloud. When will emby be releasing a similar system to this?

I don't know the finer details of what Plex has just announced but it sounds exactly what Emby has had for a while, look at the plugins for Dropbox and Google Drive.

They allow you to have media content in the cloud from which it can be streamed from.

Yeah I know the plug ins are available but this new service allows to run without a server and is purely cloud based.

It is a possibility for the future.  There are a couple of previous conversations out here you can look up.

I did have a look but most haven't been posted on in quite some time I was just wanting to know if it's in the close future or rather distant future.

I really don't see the use for Plex Cloud other than do save some bandwidth on the server end? If you are into Plex enough to want to take advantage of the Cloud service you most likely have your Plex server at home running 24/7 and available remotely. Why not just use that to stream when you are not at home? with the Cloud service all  your watched status would get out of sync wouldnt it?

Interesting idea, but it seems the cloud storage costs would make it prohibitive.

I experimented with Plex Cloud for a bit and IMHO it isn't as great as it seems on paper. There are lots of drawbacks to hosting your media in the cloud and relying on Plex's infrastructure to take care of the delivery. I would absolutely not replace an in-home server or a hosted dedicated server with Plex Cloud at this point in time. Maybe things will improve in the future but currently it just not there.

If you really want to do something like this now with Emby you can rent a cheap VPS to host Emby server and take care of the transcoding if needed, use acd-cli with EncFS or rclone to mount the cloud drive and handle encryption. The problem with streaming from cloud providers is they throttle connections, limit the number of requests, can suspend your account for overuse, and delete your files if they suspect copyright infringement has taken place. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

What I and many others do is rent or co-locate a dedicated server at a datacenter with a fast connection. This isn't cheap but it gives you the most control over everything and delivers a much better experience overall.

Yea you can already do this yourself, so this type of feature request is really just about us providing assistance to make it easier.

If Emby does decide to pursue this feature request built in encryption for the cloud hosted content is a must have requirement for it to gain mass appeal. This would really set it apart from Plex and would be the killer feature much like Live TV.

If you upload already encrypted content, the chances are that your provider will either delete it or ban you.

I have not heard any cases of this happening. There are a lot of good reasons to encyrpt your data before sending it to the cloud not just for storing media so I find it hard to believe that cloud providers are deleting data because it is encrypted. I have heard that they will run hash checks on files to look for pirated releases and delete them, suspend accounts for excessive use, and scan directly structure looking for common media library structure.

I recall there being a long thread about Plex Cloud and nobody could answer, not even Plex themselves, if storing media in the cloud violated the terms and conditions of the cloud provider. We already have seen Plex drop Amazon Drive support to what I assume was abuse of Amazon services.

I'm only going by what people are saying on DISCORD.

Yeah there is lots of speculation on what justifies getting an account suspended. Which is my main reason for not investing time and effort into until we get a straight forward answer.

From?

From?

Preferably the cloud providers themselves.

Can your service be used to host legally owned content for the purpose of operating a media streaming service for personal use? Yes/No

Depending on where you live the definition of legally owned content may vary...

Out of curiosity, would you mind sharing some specifics of your setup?  I am exploring this as an option and would love to know what others are doing.

My setup was similar to the one in this guide.

rclone supports multiple cloud providers and has built in encryption but if you are using Amazon Cloud drive I had better speeds with acd-cli. I recommend reading through this thread if you plan to use rclone.

Hello hj I use emby only for my movie server, but I have a project in my company where I will use EMBY as a server for videos tutorials. Until now, I know he's on the account. my doubts and referring to 2 options premiere: cloud supports files like .rar, pdf, among others? because I use the OWCLOUD option if Emby support will migrate everything to it.
