Disorganise 15 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 using Android client 1.0.19 I set up my external ip address and forwarded the 8096 port. But the client cannot connect to library. If I use a browser to same ip and port, I can connect ok. is it intended for the android client to access remotely? From my phone I can get into the web server and now that i have ServerWMC running with MB server, I can even browse TV schedules and set record which addresses my foremost wish. However, the android client just refuses to connect - I have it set to use port 8096 in the app setting, assuming that's correct? I'd like the android app to work because it looks great and I want to show it around to get the 'MB' message out there - and I assume the recorded TV etc will eventually make it into the app

The subnet is different between work and home [3rd number just to be clear] Still flashes up 'could not connect to library' and there does not seem to be an option to disconnect. trusselo 225 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) well, the local (internal) shouldnt be saying connected and obviously should not work unless someone has MB installed at work, and your work has the same local IP, which is the case with standard router networks. but you did try your remote (Internet) connection, right? and it didnt work either? Is there any way to hook your server directly to your modem? with no router or network? re-confirm your IP address, and try to connect from your android again. This would help rule out any issues caused by your router settings. you do have a static/semi-static IP address right? Edited February 10, 2014 by trusselo
Disorganise 15 Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Yes to trying the internet connection. and no it did not work. am trying again now on a different wifi (with a 10. address) and at least it doesn't claim to be connected internally. same error cannot connect to library though. The server is plugged into a combined adsl modem and router. I have no way to eliminate the router. However, surely the fact I can successfully use a browser eliminates any concern with the network? unless the android client requires a particular port (which earlier this thread said is not the case). and yes to a static ip. Still no go on either 3G nor wifi. cannot connect to library. I might try forwarding the UDP port (8096) when I get home to see if that makes a difference. Redshirt 1487 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Opening the UDP port won't help as UDP is only used for internal LAN communication. Something else is going on here and I'm not sure I can diagnose it without adding additional client logging.

You've said that it works in the browser, so the ports are set up correctly and the server is alive. The only thing I can think of is that 5 seconds is too low of a timeout period. I'll try raising it a bit. Does the initial connection with the browser feel slow or sluggish?
