app.emby.media & tv.emby.media

Occascionlly I use app.emby.media or tv.emby.media to connect and watch media from my server.

Is there a way to pass the serverip, user, password directly in the URL so I can bookmark it without having to enter the info?

For example something like this:

http://username:password@tv.emby.media/#!/startup/login.html?serverip=192.168.0.21

or

http://username:password@app.emby.media/#!/startup/login.html?serverip=192.168.0.21

Some users have found some workarounds but we don't have documented or supported methods at this point.

However both apps will remember login so you can just rely on that if you like.

Could you refer me to the workarounds that you mentioned?

Any plans to make it so you can include the info in the URL?

From what I can see, once you enter your server name/ip it converts it to a long ID number?

I haven't really been keeping track of them, but if I recall @@chef figured one out. Again, no promises they will always remain possible, but i guess it works for now.

Hello :)

Yeah that ID is your server ID.

Copy and past the URL after you have logged into the server from an outside point.

That should atleast get you to the login page the next time you press the bookmark.

I bought a cheap domain name and then pointed that to my external IP.

I found that helpful, because I just have to access my domain to gain access.

For the theater version, try the first mentioned method :)

Does that ID change or expire?

Hmmm.... I'm not entirely sure about that.

Emby connect uses that ID for the reverse lookup to connect you.

If it does expire it doesn't happen often.

Now that you mention it though, the main developers may start making it a regular occurrence for security reasons. ;)

But, from my experience (over the past couple months of utilizing external connections to my server) no it does not.

I hope not, in fact it would be nice if this was offically supported, since I think its normal to want to have your own URL and as long as the ID does not change then this will work.

There is no security issue as you still need to login with user/pass

I would like to keep everything under my own domain name, so for example app.mydomain.com or tv.mydomain.com

Is the code for app.emby.media or tv.emby.media open source?

Posted

Not at this time, sorry.

Is that something that you would consider sharing in the future?

Or perhaps provide more info so I could set it up myself?

I am sure I am not the only one who prefers to keep everything under their own domain

Using your own domain already replaces app.emby.media.  tv.emby.media (Theather) is another story.

I would need to setup some kind of reverse proxy to have my domain name do the same thing as app.emby.media

If the code for this page was shared then we could use our own domains easier without having to setup reverse proxy

Is that what happens when you point your domain at emby? A reverse proxy?

I don't know, that is the problem.

Seems like its secret information that they don't want to share.

I know I can point directly to my server and port 8096, but I want to make it easier for my users and just use a subdomain the same way app.emby.media and tv.emby.media works

You can already do that by using the hosting settings on the server (and proper external domain setup).  I use a no-ip domain this way for my kids to access from their phones.
