Emby Server 3.2.4 Media Deletion Functionality

Hi guys - running Emby Server on Windows 10.

Background - I had a drive failure a little while ago and lost some of my media. I left the media folder in the Emby Library while I attempted to recover the lost media from backups and other sources. Retaining the lost media folder in the library enabled me to determine what I was missing. As I recovered individual media I deleted the missing media from the library. This was working ok until I updated to 3.2.4. System.IO Errors (the drive/folder does not actually exist - my interpretation not log files). I immediately reverted to 3.2.3 to restore the functionality and will probably stay on it till I recover most of my lost media. This isn't an issue I want to raise as my situation may be unique and I have a workaround - but I notice that

  • Clean related files when deleting items

was a feature of 3.2.4 and 3.2.5 releases

I was hoping to get some idea of the change in functionality from 3.2.3 to 3.2.4/3.2.5

Any ideas?

I note that no one else has reported any issues similar and this post does not imply that the deletion process does not work for media files that do exist in the library - but it does suggest that items can be orphaned in the library without a method to remove them.

All it does it look for files with the same name as the video and having an image file extension, or subtitle file extension, or .nfo/xml file extension.

Thanks

So the question would be what does Emby do if it can't find any of these things because they don't exist?

My edit suggests that you could have orphaned items in the library without the ability to delete them.

This is not a big deal and I can live on 3.2.3 until I have finished recovering items.

Sorry I'm afraid I don't understand the question. If it can't find them then there's nothing to delete, right?

But there is still an entry in the library for the non-existent movie/media.

I think I would be able to delete these entries by removing the media folder from the library when I am done.

So I could add recovered media to the library and have duplicates of the movies - then just remove the missing media folder and all the ghost movies will be removed.

Problem solved.

No need to not update to 3.2.5

Thanks

Hi, no, not if you delete using the Emby delete button.

If you delete by just deleting from the file system then you will need to run a library scan afterwards.

Just to clear this up if it was a little unclear.

Not an issue now. If anyone strays across this I hope to make it clear for them

Drive went west......

All entries in library & metadata remained ( I did not remove the the Drive/Media Folder from the library - thus I could work out what I lost.

Up until 3.2.3 I could delete these ghost entries (no media behind them) using the Emby Delete Media Button

After 3.2.4 I could not - spurring a thought that I would have ghost entries in the library I couldn't remove (via Delete Media)

I now conclude that I can just delete the Drive/Media Folder from the Library to achieve this.

Thanks
