Can't Play back (newer) recorded videos and not recording shows properly

@@speechles,

I just downloaded it. Nope, it won't play those videos by either force directstream or transcode. (Auto either..). Thanks though.

Does it pop up a dialog that says along the lines of, corrupt stream or item then ask you to come to emby forums and post the media details?

..Or does it just hang on the retrieving/loading bar?

The fact it wont play forced (direct or transcoded) is telling. This means permissions might be off, or other small details missing.

@@speechles,

I didnt see any error, just hanging.  I'm backing up the Emby Server now, because i was going to just take the "shotgun" approach and either remove and re-install, or wipe the entire box, install clean windows and just Emby.  Once backed up. though, I'll retry your test and post here.  Is there a certain way I should be setting permissions?  I know it seems to transcode to a specific user folder on the C drive.  I have Emby running as a service now, with an admin account linked to it..  The thing I don't get it why it can play some videos, but not others.  They are all saved to the same locations, and really all saved using the same Emby record feature.  Some work, others just don't.  If it were permissions, wouldn't it fail all the time? It seems fairly random, with the majority of new recordings seeming to fail on Roku.

@@speechles,

If I do "force transcode", it just shows the black screen with the "Retrieving" bar fow quite some time, then it flickers to the screen displaying the recording, and tried again to retrieve- Then gives the error "Playback Error The video player has closed prematurely.  Your play method is Force Transcoding. Change the play method to one of the USE AUTO DETECTION choices and try again"

Edit:  I get the same error for direct stream and transcode. directplay just seems to sit with the bar forever.. Thanks!

Do you guys know if anything changed in the later versions of Emby in regard to how it streamed to Roku?  I erased my C drive, installed Windows clean (Win 7 Pro) and installed the latest Emby server.  I kept my previous video files. as they were on my D drive.  I still cannot play the Emby recordings on Roku.  What's interesting is that previous ones I did play before (Star Trek Voyager) on Roku won't play anymore either.  In the last few revs of Emby Server for Windows did anything change with how it streams to Roku?

Thanks

Do you use recording conversion?

@@Luke,

I have the auto conversion unchecked.

as a test, can you try enabling it for one recording, then see how that plays? thanks.

@@Luke,

I have it unchecked and recording SNL now.  Once that is over, I will check it and record something else.  Question though.. I can view these previous recordings with the Windows App, and I can click the videos directly on the server to view them.  It's just the roku viewing that's "broken."  What changes for Roku?  Are they all transcoded and then sent directly to the Roku? Were there changes to that in the versions since like January?

@@Luke,

With the auto conversion checked and set to mp4, I can view the recorded video on the Roku, BUT it's not playing on the Android or Windows Emby Theater Apps now (Detroit Muscle).  Both Windows and Android just spin endlessly.  If I uncheck it, and record a show (SNL), I can view on both devices.   Also, the guide isn't working on the HD channels with the current version of Emby server. If my recordings are set to record the HD channels, does that mean they will now fail ?  Pic atttached.

Question.. Is there a version of Windows that is preferred as more stable to run Emby? I have Win 7 pro and  I had the Emby .5 version working fairly well for a few weeks.  It was recording, I could play back etc.  Then, today, I was again unable to play previously recorded videos and the CPU was running at 80 to 90 percent when I'd try.  I grabbed logs and rebooted.. Same issue.  I then figured I should update to the .7 or .8 version of emby and see if there is a fix in that  I kllled the Emby service and ran the installer. It overwrote Emby and made what appears  a fresh install instead of an upgrade..  Asked me for login and password and wanted me to recreate the video folders etc.  I am currently restoring from backup. I want to see if the 3 week old backed up version can play the same videos that it was unable to play earlier today.  Once it comes up, I'll post the logs here in case they are useful to you.  Is there a stable version of Windows that just works?  I dont need bells and whistles.  Just want Emby to work well for more then a few weeks.  Thanks.

Any version that supports the .net framework 4.62 is fine.

I guess
I'm at a loss as to why I am having issues then.  I've done a Clean install of Windows 7, but the same issue repeatedly. Randomly videos aren't playing via ROKU. Seems like all is well for a few weeks, recording and live TV are all perfect,  then the random recording issues start. Some shows record and can be played back, others cant.    I just did a restore and tried to play the sample videos and I'm having the same issue as when I'd created this thread.  BLack screen and the bar gets to about 50 percent and dies.

I attached a bunch of logs here.  "Server log wont play video" where when I was attempting to play some of the videos on the roku and it was failing". Transcode log is from that time as well

The others are after I upgraded to the .7 version of Emby and the upgrade part didn't work.  It had some unhandled error as well, and I have that log here too.

Any idea as to what I should do here to get Emby to record and playback reliably?  The "server" I use is a Win 7 box, with 8 gigs of ram, and an i7. It ONLY runs Emby.. That's its whole purpose i life.  It's not running any other programs, not being logged into.  It just sits ans runs emby.We use ROKUs solely for viewing Emby on TVs.  Any ideas?

I'm going to disregard the serverwontplayvideo log because it's on 3.2.5, and 3.2.7 is now the latest. Since you have now updated to the latest version, can you please try again, then attach a new log if the issue persists?

Also, what version of the Roku app are you running?

Thanks !

I'm not at the latest anymore. The upgrade failed, with the loss of my settings and  the odd error, so I restored windows  from a full backup and returned to my original clean 3.2.5 install.  its currently there as I was afraid the 3.2.7 would fail again.  Roku is build 2.2 5 however I have also tried the neon one as well as the preview version.  Same issues.    I did notice something odd though.  If I watch task manager on the server:

-Playing a good video on the roku, I get 47% cpu usage

-Playing a video that keeps stopping and going back to the black screen with the little bar, I see the CPU usage jump to like 86% (Macguyver episode 16)

-Trying to play a video that  wont play just stays at the black screen with the bar, CPU doesn't shift at all.   (Humans Episode 7)

I set all shows to record the same using the DVR of Emby.  Some record and work, others get almost like a jitter or break, others just fail... I can, however play those videos directly on the server.
