ebds 1 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Hi folks. I saw that there was a new version 3.2.5 to be installed. I selected Update and it said it installed it and that I should restart Emby server. I hit restart and confirmed and the server goes down but does not come back up. When I bring it back up manually it's on the old release even though it said it installed 3.2.5. I don't know how to get it to complete the update successfully. Help? Thanks, Rob
Wizzkidy 3 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Hi, I would kill the service and run the update manually from the setup file see what happens?
ebds 1 Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) And where would I find the setup file please? Rob UPDATE: The Emby update log indicates that it couldn't delete the system.old folder so it could create the new backup. I found that when trying to delete that folder manually, I could not either. So there is some file issue I have to resolve before trying to move forward with any Emby updates. Edited February 28, 2017 by ebds
Luke 42081 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Try installing from the website on top of your current version. If you run into any download problems just try again later, it may be due to this: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/45366-should-i-have-mediabrowser-server-emby-server-on-my-pc/?view=getlastpost
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) There are times when the server process does not shut down fast enough and folder are not able to be deleted or created because they are still in use do to the process hanging. All you can do is wait for the process to disappear in task manager the reinstall using the installer on the download page to get the new version, or manually get the update from GitHub, depending on the OS you are running. ebds 1 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 I didn't find anything in my download folder on my Windows 10 machine. Where does it put the update files?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 If the server is getting the update it will be in the update folder c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\updates other wise just run the installer from the download page again.
ebr 16186 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 You can also just restart the machine to be sure nothing is holding anything open.
ParcelRot 1 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I'm having the same issue - I have version 3.2.1.0 running, and it says 3.2.5 has been installed and needs a restart to apply the update, but it never applies. It doesn't Restart, and if I run it manually it still remains at 3.2.1.0. For what it is worth, my install still uses C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server, so maybe there is an issue there. I will try the manual update after backing up the directory above.

That just means you are on a really old installation, but everything should still work.
ParcelRot 1 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I was able to manually update and now it works. Just weird that it couldn't rename the system directory automatically.
