MontyJ 0 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Hola, Starting a test of the Emby setup on my QNAP TS-251. I use the nas box for backup of a large collection of ebooks, music, wallpaper images, photos, etc. I have a setup that is a little clunky to share some of this content to a few people via the Internet. I currently use COPS and Pagekite as a domain name service for easy access to ebook files. But I want to expand access to other media content on the nas as I mentioned above. COPS will not work work well for non-ebook content, so I wanted to look at Emby as a way to provide access to that additional media. I don't need a full blown media server, ie transcoding movies,or other rendering, etc, but I do need download capabilities for the users. My question is about the remote users needing a Premium subscription for downloading. Is this necessary? I have always provided my content free to my 'members' and don't want them to incur any fees or charges. If they must pay, then my next question is: Can Emby be set up using Apache web server? Nice looking product, hope I can make use of it! Monty
zigzagtshirt 55 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) The users don't need to purchase Emby Premiere to have access to Premiere features. The server just has to have a valid Emby Premiere license key (so you would buy it for the server). However, I believe there is a limit of 15 devices that can use premiere. I am unsure if this means 15 devices at one time, or 15 regardless if they are active at the moment or not. Edited February 28, 2017 by zigzagtshirt

I don't mind getting a Premium license for the server, so that part will fit with my scheme nicely. However, I do have more than 15 users, tho never ever have they been online at the same time. So if the license is "15 device limit at one time", rather than "15 device limit registered devices", then this looks to be the solution!

It is addressed here. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/45376-premium-fee-for-all-users/ Edited February 28, 2017 by zigzagtshirt
ebr 16169 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 The limit is not concurrent devices. It is a total of what are deemed as "active" devices - which would be ones that have been active within the past couple of weeks.

Never have I seen more than 6 on at one time, but say 20 separate users attempt to login in 2 weeks. Will the 16th user be denied access or otherwise be limited? Thanks!

They would not validate for Premiere. What that actually translates into as far as being denied anything depends on exactly what they were trying to do (whether it required Premiere).
