What is the correct metadata for Movies/TV Shows

Just curious.

 

I have some issues with long library scans and Initial sync in Kodi.

 

90% of my TV series contain hidden "metadata" folders (episodename.SxxExx.xml and thumbnails) and other Media Center Master generated files (series.xml) I have never deleted them and I was wondering if this can be causing any problem? Safe to delete?

 

All of my media has locally stored .nfo files in addition to these others.
