Guest Grace1313 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Not sure what to call the screen that comes up during playback when you hit the ok button. Anyway, it looks fantastic! I notice the forward button at the bottom that takes you to the next video is a little odd. I know it's a work in progress, but may i suggest "next up" or something similar instead of the arrow button and positioned under the pause button. Just a thought.
ebr 16169 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 What do you mean by "odd"? That is a standard "skip forward" button and is the same one used in the audio player. Perhaps you meant because it happened to be the only one there? If so, there will be other options soon. Right now, you get audio and subtitle buttons if the item has those available and then next and previous - again, if available.
speechles 2055 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) Its the placement really. As a true next, it should be placed near the end of the scrubbing bar. Always in that same position if available. The previous should always be first, and near the front of the scrubber as close as possible. This is how it would not seem "odd" to me. It looks so weird just having it at the front of the scrubber bar and called next. Then the other weird part, the next button appears, even if the next episode is virtual. So click it, it repeats the same episode you just watched, since it cant play the virtual episode. The next button is still there, so click it again, this time a video error dialog, No streams were provided for playback. There are still some ghost in the machine I am guessing. The big thing though is the correct placement of the previous/next buttons so they dont look odd. Edited February 23, 2017 by speechles 1
speechles 2055 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) Press OK up pops osd/hud, then.. you.. wait for it to disappear. There isnt a dimiss button above the scrub bar/play/pause where you can press up and Ok to dismiss. You just wait... and there is an endtime now, but no clock/time.. closer.. but still more to show. Actually, man... Press OK pops up the osd/hud, then press back button it dismisses.. yes!! ..but wait, something is off.. Pressing OK now does nothing, and it feels like the logic to control the osd/hud thinks it is still open and in the osd/hud.. damn, no good.. so looks like the back button needs to be checked for to exit the osd/hud. Then it acts like a sweet dismiss button. Edited February 23, 2017 by speechles
ebr 16169 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Yes, the back button is how you dismiss anything that is on top of the video including the OSD (personally don't like HUD because that doesn't really make sense to me in this context - not flying an F18 ). I have fixed some interaction problems in the past couple days so you'll need to re-test that with the next update. On the action buttons below the transport bar: 1) There will be more which will make it less "odd" because it won't be all by itself 2) The play/pause button is up by the transport bar all by itself for a direct purpose. Positioning it like this means that you can get back to it with a single button press no matter where current focus may be. Even if on the fourth button below, a single "up" will get you back to play/pause. 3) It is possible that I may choose to go the same route as the audio player and, instead of not having the buttons there at all for unavailable functions, have them there but disabled. This will give a more consistent look but could be strange for items with very few available buttons. With audio, you almost always have a queue so next and previous are almost always available. That's not as true with video but, perhaps it would look better if it were more consistent. For reference, this is what we're working towards (but, since there are dedicated buttons on the remote, the ff/rew buttons won't be there and would be next/prev instead):
ebr 16169 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Unfortunately, I've also just discovered that "Zoom" will not be possible on the Roku either .
ebr 16169 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Please test the remote key interaction with 1.19.18.
Guest Grace1313 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 That last picture looks great. Yes, by odd i meant as @@speechles said, the placement of it. I agree it will look better once you have all the other buttons there, even if they are disabled.

Scene graph has to have something similar to this. This is how you would remove black bars on 4x3 content with pure brightscript. When I tried to make use of this, the zoom effect is resolution dependent so was a PITA to implement so i never finished with it..lol Edited February 23, 2017 by speechles

Those who tried it said it could only be used to reduce the size of the video maintaining its aspect ratio. I didn't try it myself though.
Guest Grace1313 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Remote key interaction is better with the update. Back button dismisses osd and repressing ok brings it back so the app still thinking it is open is now gone. Is there any way to go back to the main osd after clicking the info button without having to close and reopen? Not sure if using back button to main osd then back again to close is possible.

Not sure if using back button to main osd then back again to close is possible. No. I thought having to press back twice to dismiss the OSD would probably be annoying to most people. I may just redesign how the summary display works at some point.
