einniv 4 Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 I have a bunch of old Looney Tunes cartoons in a folder that I wanted to add as a library. Since they aren't well organized and I have no idea where they aired, etc. , I figured using the "Home Video" content type would make the most sense. The folder and its subfolders were scanned in but for some files it lists the title as the name of the file, as I expected, but for others it just says "Video". There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it that I can detect. e.g. (Ep. 135) - Bugs' Bonnets.avi has a title of "(Ep. 135) - Bugs' Bonnets" but (Ep. 156) - Baton Bunny.avi has a title of "Video" 07 - Rocket Bye Baby.avi has a title of "07 - Rocket Bye Baby" but 12 - Cheese Chasers.avi has a title of "Video" At first I wondered if there was title info embedded in the file or something. Using the Windows Explorer property sheet for the file though shows a blank title for all the files , so it doesn't seem to be that. I tried deleting all the NFOs and refreshing in the metadata manager but the results were the same.
Luke 42085 Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 It may have gotten those titles from embedded metadata. I would just edit the ones you won't like. We will have to add a setting about this for a future update. thanks.
thorin 0 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) Hi, I'm totally new (only a few hours of testing Emby) and was considering purchase for a year or lifetime but then I noticed that there is no option to simply show filenames instead of this parsed "titles" (at least maybe for mixed content or why not for all content types). This is really a show stopper for me as I don't want to lose time in renaming files and folders for Emby to be able to parse them properly. Imagine my case: I have a folder Video with subfolders Clips, Movies, Serials, TV, Kids etc... And inside Movies for example I have all my downloaded torrent folders Renaming them is totally waste of time and also most of the torrent clients don't allow this. When I watch some movie I simply delete it. Is there a possibility to add this option in some of the next releases? Apart of this - amazing product along with Android app and flawless browser support! Thanks! Edited February 22, 2017 by thorin

thorin 0 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) I tried It's not the problem with rich metadata, it's the title below the thumbnail. It is parsed from filename as I understood or from embedded metadata in the video file. E.g.: filename: Ulicata (1995) Polovinchati istorii.avi title displayed: Ulicata now look at this : filename: salfetka.mp4 title displayed: 844268418954549 I want simply to be able to see the filename below the thumbnail. Apart of this I like rich metadata when library is set up with Movies content type - simply exceptional work. Edited February 22, 2017 by thorin
ebr 16195 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 now look at this : filename: salfetka.mp4 title displayed: 844268418954549 That has to have come from metadata embedded within the file or, possibly, an nfo file along with it.
thorin 0 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) Obviously That's why I went through all server settings but didn't find anything related to titles data source. Edited February 22, 2017 by thorin
ebr 16195 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I don't think there is a way to disable the reading of embedded metadata as it is assumed that, if that exists, it is what should be used. Perhaps a setting in the future.
thorin 0 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I found other threads with the same issue. Luke is saying that there is a plan to add this in some next release. I hope this will be soon.
Luke 42085 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Yes a setting to prefer file name vs embedded title is being added for the next release, thanks !
thorin 0 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Thank you! That's awesome! Please, make sure also the extension is included or if not then maybe with some additional tick box Thanks again! I think this is my new media server replacement after 5 years with WMS...
