Can't get into Emby Server app or dashboard - runs in background?

I had a similar issue to some of the other new users - I got unhandled exception errors repeatedly, finally did a second install on top of the first, and got past it. Now when I launch the server from the Windows menu, it runs in the background, but I can't open it, can't get to the dashboard, etc. I can start it as a service, and the symptoms are the same. No error message, but no menu/no dashboard. I'm running Windows 10 and the most recent 'stable' version of Emby. Help!!

Are you using url "localhost:8096" or the ipaddress Emby is installed on "ipaddress:8096"?  When running the app double click the taskbar icon or right click Configure Emby.

...and to Happy2Play's question, I can't get the info you requested because Emby doesn't show up in the task bar, and I can't get at the app's menu

It looks like you are starting up two instances simultaneously - both the windows service and the windows tray icon. what you need to do is pick one or the other.

can you log into the machine that is running Emby Server and open the url

http://localhost:8096

Does that work?

I had the Emby server turned off as a windows service already; I restarted it from the Start menu (it shows as a process now in Task Manager and is still stopped as a service) and was able to user the localhost URL to get in. So, thanks! That worked. The login dialog didn't accept my account name as valid, but I am able to log in using the Server name, and I have the dashboard up now in the browser; the URL is http://10.0.0.164:8096/web/dashboard.html

Being new to Emby, I really don't know what to expect or what to do next; I'll continue working through using whatever guides I can, and I expect I'll need help again. My hope is to set up an older laptop running Emby in Win XP with an external hard drive containing my FLAC library, so I can stream my own music from other devices. If it works, I intend to purchase the lifetime Premium license. Any advice will be helpful. ~Thanks!
